Bermuda with Kids in July? Input needed...
Hi Fodorites-
My children will be almost 5 and just 7 in July, and we've decided to go to Bermuda on family vacation to be there for the island's 400th anniversary celebration. I know we'll do lots of the planned celebration activities, but I'm struggling with where to stay. The kids love the beach, and I know we'll want to do a flat-bottomed boat tour, but that's as far as I've planned. If you have suggestions of places to stay (either 2 bedrooms or adjoining rooms are a must, and we'd prefer somewhere with a beach and pool, or at least easy access to both), where to eat with the kids, and things other than the anniverary celebrations to do, please post away. The boys are very interested in the Sea Venture wreck, so anything of that era or having to do with Pirates would be good. Thank you so much!

I can't help you too much with lodging, since we stay at B&Bs. Your kids might like the dolphin quest program at the Maritime Museum (near Dockyard). Also, check out the Bermuda Aquarium Musuem and Zoo (Flatts, Hamilton Parish) and the Crystal Caves. Of the numerous forts, St. Catherines is probably the best.

http://www.bermudarentals.com has listings of cottages which might be the best solution since you are traveling with little ones. As to hotels, you can take a look at http://www.bermudatourism.com for a thumbnail sketch of your choices. If you can give us some budget parameters it will be easier to make suggestions. The Elbow Beach Resort, Pompano Beach Resort, Fairmont Southhampton, and the Reefs will be able to provide everything you want, but in July it can be pretty expensive. For a bit less, consider Clairfont cottages, Surfside, and 9Beaches.
A must do activity is the Underwater Exploration Museum in Hamilton. An excellent spot to learn about the shipwrecks and marine life of the Bermuda oceans.
Have a wonderful trip. Bermuda is another world.

Last year we stayed in a "parlor suite" at the fairmont southampton and that was essentially 2 adjoining rooms, but one was a living room and one was a bedroom. We just needed to put a crib in the living room, so i'm not sure if the sofa pulled out or not. I have stayed at the elbow and the Fairmont Southampon. with kids, I prefer the FS.

Thanks for the input- I will check out those links and the underwater exploration museum. As far as budget, we'll certainly have one, but I'm thinking it will be our only big trip this year, so we'll do what we have to do make it worthwhile and easy. I like having a kitchen if possible so we can grab breakfast or lunch at "home" between excursions. I also like B&Bs if they are kid-friendly, and we're fine with adjoining hotel rooms if the perks of having a pool and beach nearby outweigh the expense of having to eat all meals out. Thanks for all of your help!
