If you had the choice to visit one of three islands - Bermuda , St. John or Nevis, where would you go and why? Would love a comparison from those who have been to all three - pros and cons. Our folks are planning a family vacation and like nice beaches, beautiful scenery, lush surroundings, friendly people, safe area, etc. Have been to Anguilla before and did not like as the island was very flat, very dry and had a lot of poverty. Are St. John and Nevis similar in this respect?

Hi Bosco. Poverty is really in the eye of the beholder. Anguilla really is not a poor island such as St. Lucia. If this was your first caribbean trip, Anguilla is a great island to experience.

Bermuda has been one of my favorite islands for many years. It was my standard for the caribbean-it never happened. Even Barbados did not come close. Bermuda is unigue, it has lovey
lanes, great vistas, beautiful stately homes, nice restaurants, and yes it can be casual. The water, beaches, etc. still one of my favorites. People are
very cosmopolitan, more of a European flavor! We still go there almost every year. If you can find it rent the old movie The Deep.
St. John is very lush, its almost all national park. Cruz Bay is a funky little town. I have no idea what Nevis is like-
Check out Bermuda, it might be just what you are looking for.

St. John and Nevis are not similar in any respect. My advice if you are fussy about good beaches, amenities and general user-friendly type conveniences would be St. John. It is stunning physically but has a good infrastructure and is two-thirds national park so poverty is not visible.

P.S. If you thought that Anguilla was poverty-stricken, best stay out of the islands in general.

You didn't ask, but St. Barts and Mustique are two of the most upscale islands in the Caribbean - you won't find much poverty on St. Barts and none on Mustique. Regarding Nevis, it's a lush island but it's beaches don't compare with either St. John or Anguilla and you will find what you might mistakenly believe is poverty.

Thanks everyone for you advice. We've decided on Bermuda although St. John is still in the back of our minds. Maybe, we'll think about that for our next trip. Sounds like everyone realy loves Anguilla. That was not my experience, but we visited about 15 years ago, shortly after a hurricane so the island was not in great shape. We also did not stay at one of the beautiful luxury resorts such as Cap or Maliohauna (?). We stayed at a budget resort on Sandy Ground called The Mariners during the off season and much was closed down. I can't deny, though that the beaches are spectacular. I guess I was looking for something more lush (like Bermuda or St. John). Thanks again.

Now that you have chosen beautiful Bermuda..check out prices...the most economical way is by cruise ship.. Food is very expensive which is an understatement. We are off for the 10th time cruising to Bermuda..

Bermuda is wonderful, but the weather there between Nov & May is not tropical. St.John is one of my favorites having the best of all worlds. Quiet, beautiful beaches (numerous) great dining. If you get bored take the ferry to st.thomas and join the hustle and bustle. I haven't been to nevis for almost 10 years now but from what i remember it is extremely quiet, great for total relaxation but your options are some what limited in terms of dining and shopping. Beautiful unspoiled island just very quiet. St.kitts is the sister island and does not share that great a reputation. So, Bermuda can't go wrong (may thru oct) and St.John is a win win. Good luck ad have a great time where ever you choose.
