bermuda restaurant questions

Looking forward to our trip to bermuda this summer... and thinking about restaurants already! so excited! In any event, the last 2 times we went, we were really only "wowed" by Port o' call for lunch and the Newport room for dinner. We were going to go to Ascot's but when we drove up it just looked a little "fuddy duddy" so we changed our minds. I'm seeing from reviews that perhaps that was a mistake.

My DH likes the Waterlot- i think it's ok. Others that we have been to that to us were good, but not spectacular, were Cafe Lido, Coconuts, La Coquille and Aqua. We are real foodies and really looking to have a great meal each night. Dinner is our thing- we like to get dressed up (not formal but smart) and make it a special night. I'd love some suggestions for some places to go this coming trip. TIA!

La Coquille is closed. The owners of Watercolours are super foodies and they ranked Port O' Call very highly. I do like Ascots quite a bit. My favorite place has consistently been Fourways. Reservations are essential. Blu has a stunning view from the Belmont Golf complex. I have only eaten there once and thought it very good.
For a good lunch, try The Lemon Tree in town.

Enjoy your trip!

I think the wow factor in Bermuda
is hard to find and my palate
is definitely spoiled. We have been going to Bermuda for years, and have always found the food very good. I agree we loved The Newport Room, also enjoyed Port O Call. We had a wow a few times at Waterloo house (the chef was from The French Laundry). I think they are closing this July.

I liked Coconuts setting, liked Aqua, and also Ascots. Emcash I have to laugh what you call "fuddy duddy" I think is Bermuda charm. Have not tried The Fourways Inn in years-so I would give that a go. Blu is an interesting new spot.

We are going in July. Plan to go
back to The Newport Room, Blu,
Frescos, and maybe The Fourways.

cmcfong--tell me about The Lemon
Tree.

Sorry about the fuddy duddy comment! it just looked like there weren't a ton of people there and that it was geared to an older crowd (not that i'm that young!). We will put ascots on the list this year .

Just looked at port o call's menu and I like the lunch menu better than the dinner menu.

I agree that you can't beat the setting at coconuts, but we didn't really enjoy our meal there. We also didn't enjoy aqua-- i was being kinder in my first post. I know we will not go back to those 2. Cafe Lido was pretty good- we were staying at Elbow then, so it was convenient. We actually enjoyed Mickey's for lunch when we stayed there.

I'll def look into the Lemon Tree and Fourways. sad to hear waterloo is closing, would have liked to have tried that.

Please keep the suggestions coming- thank you!

When I stayed at Watercolours the hosts, Carole and Joe Holding, told me about The Lemon Tree. The chef/owner was head chef at Cambridge Beaches for many years. It is located next to the post office in Hamilton and has outdoor seating. It is very casual. Once a week he does apps and wine in the evening, but it is a day operation for the most part. The food is very good and it is worth stopping in while you are exploring the Hamilton shops. Highly recommended.

I'm chiming in with votes for Blu and Bistro J. Bistro J has a weekly 'chalkboard' menu that changes based on what is fresh that week. But my favorite is Ascots - and we are in our 30's, so not fuddy-duddy at all !! You'll probably like Harbourfront (where Coquille used to be at BUEI) classy and great setting. Port O'Call has some construction going on - last week when we drove by, it actually even didn't look open. I can verify that later in the week for you if you want.

We are going in the summer, so hopefully any construction around port'o call will be finished by then? would love an update TXgirl if it's not too much trouble - thank you!

Thanks for your responses. Looks like we need to try ascots this trip and perhaps Blu. Lemon tree sounds great for lunch. I'll have to look at menus too to make sure our nights will be varied cuisine- wise. i can't wait to return to bermuda!

Port O' Call is currently closed for renovations with no anticipated re-opening date.
Have a good trip!
