Bermuda: Fairmont Southampton or Royal Palms?

Hi. Planning a 10 day trip to Bermuda in late March with 3 kids (6yrs, 10yrs, 11mths). Of benefit would be facilities to cook baby food (Royal Palm) and kids activities on some days (Fairmont Southampton). Also need to be able to easily walk with pushchair; going to different restaurants would be a plus (5 at FS or lots near town at RP). Prices are similar so not really a major consideration! Any comment/experience welcome on where to stay? Many Thanks!

It looks like you have already identified some of the principle considerations. I like Royal Palms and will be staying there in June. I am taking two teenagers with me and I think the location is the biggest selling point. The rooms are large and well appointed. The location is good for walking around Hamilton. It is unlikely that it will be beach weather when you go in March, however the pool at the Fairmont Southhampton is heated. There are game rooms, etc at the Fairmont, plus the ferry into Hamilton is a fun ride. Lots of personal attention at the Royal Palms, it is a very well run family operation. The on site restaurant, Ascots, is very good. The restaurants on site at the Fairmont range from OK to fabulous (the fabulous one being ill suited to children). I don't know if this helps in your analysis. Whereever you end up, Bermuda is wonderful. Enjoy your trip.

CMCFONG - many thanks for your comments - appreciated. Personally I do value the boutique, personal attention type hotels, but as ever, my children take priority on family holidays and the ferry ride being fun sounds good - so I'm edging to the FS at present. Enjoy your trip too

While there is a free ferry ride between the Fairmonts, for about $4.00 you can take one from the dock on Front Street. I always ride the ferry out to Dockyards from Hamilton. Best form of public transportation ever!

PS if you are flying into Bermuda stop at teh information desk in front of baggage claim. You can buy transportation passes (bus and ferry) and a menu guide to local restaurants. Also worth visiting with kids is the Lighthouse Tea Room in Gibbs Lighthouse very near the Southhampton Fairmont.

sb3202 I am currently in Bermuda on a two week vacation.
The weather has been great!

Hi cmcfong! Having a great time!

We heard our home town has gotten a foot of snow since we left and more coming tonight!

So glad we are here!
We are going to dinner tonight at a restaurant in Flats. It is called Rostico (sp). Have you been there?

Will post as time allows!

Hi cmcfong. Many thanks for your comments, most appreciated. We've gone for the FS. But, after speaking with RP, we've decided we'll visit the Ascot eaterie and look around anyhow - maybe mext time we'll stay there! Enjoy your stay bhonoreh. Looking forward to going - only 5 weeks And counting!
