Trying to pack for Bermuda !! Does my husband need long pants for Lido & Harbourfront restaurants ?? I know the "jacket required" is no longer in practice. But are shorts and a nice long sleeve shirt appropriate ??

If we were going to Bermuda, my DH would pack a sports jacket and pair of khaki pants. It is one of the more dressy islands for the dinner hour. We went last about 4 years ago, and he needed them.

I'd pack him one pair of khakis or linen pants and a nice pair of loafers, and a collared shirt, definitely. Even if you can get in dressed in shorts, you're going to feel more appropriate in long pants.

Thanks guys !! We were there the last two years and poor DH had carried a jacket and was the only one wearing one !! But we hadn't gone to Lido & Harbourfront. It must have really changed from when "girlonthego" was there !! Even at the Princess no one wore jackets - but thanks txgirlinbda - I'm packing those long khaki's now.

txgirlinbda - are you from Texas ?? Next trip is San Antonio - any advice ?? Staying at the Westin.

We just came back from bermuda, and ate at pretty upscale places each night. the only place that we went to which required a jacket was the newport room at the SHPrincess. But, he wore long pants every night.

I have been to SA several times, but always stay w/ friends. I know it's touristy, but we always make an effort to get to Mi Tierra's 24-hr cafe in Market Square for the tortilla soup. Have a great trip!

Thanks emcash - but did you notice all the other guys in shorts - with collared polo's or dress shirts ?? That's what we mainly saw.

I just asked my Dh and he said he didn't notice any men wearing shorts when we went out to dinner. Definitely pants (and jacket) at newport room. Definitely pants at Waterlot and Waterloo house. Even and Blu and Bacci, which were a bit more casual, we mainly saw men in long pants. Note though that our reservations were always at 9:00 pm, that might have made a difference.

I guess times have changed in Bermuda!
We never went to the specific restaurant you want to go to, but DH did wear a jacket most nights.

I don't want to steer you wrong. It was just our experience. We are young in mid 40's age group. This is the only island my DH wore pants and sports jacket most nights.
So, I guess things are getting more casual. He would actually prefer that for vacation. Have fun!

Thanks girlonthego !! I think if he had to wear a jacket he just wouldn't go. When we were in Germany that was another story - especially Badin-Badin he wore his jacket but to a beach - no way. So I'm glad it has changed.

Most restaurants in Bermuda have done away with the jacket requirement. He'll still feel more appropriate (and earn more respect from the locals) if he wears long pants. My husband packs khaki, linen-blend, and other variations of smart-dress pants (NOT cargo, etc.)

Still, my middle-aged husband will pack a jacket for when the mood hits to look classier and the weather or AC is reasonable. 'God bless him, he believes in making at effort.

You may or may not be into it, but I noticed a few clubs that required long pants on men.
