Hi Lisa!

Are you planning on just jumping in and snorkelling off the beach on your own? If so, I would hit ANY sporting-goods-type store and get the girls their own masks and snorkels and bring them on the cruise with you. (don't forget the de-fog.)

One or two uses will pay for a rental, and then they have them for the next trip. (I used to find decent sets at Academy and sometimes Target, of all places.) And no worrying about whether equipment got sanitized well!)

If you're going to go one one of the off-shore boat trips where they take you to a snorkel site, they'll provide gear.

There are a couple of stands at a few of the beaches where you can rent by the hour, namely Church Bay and Tobacco Bay, probably Horseshoe Bay as well, but bear in mind it's been a little over a year since I lived there, that might not be totally accurate this summer.

For me personally, I would eliminate the hassle of wondering where I was going to rent from, how much it will cost, and how long I have to use the gear - buy the girls their own and it's one less thing to worry about. (Unless, of course, you're taking a snorkel tour.)

And yes, cash works in Bermuda - US dollars are accepted, but you won't necessarily get US dollars as change. (No exchange rate.) There are ATMs at the main bank branches in Hamilton that dispense US dollars, too. (HSBC on Front St is the closest to the ferry terminal.)

The off the beach snorkeling is not very good in the Barbados but for $100-$110 you can go withCalabazza (check spelling) on a new sailboat) on a 5 hour sail/snorkel to the only two places that has decent snorkeling and they cannot be accessed from shore. That includes a very good lunch, soda, beer, and puch (maybe a little too much on my trip for ony guy trying to prove something You go out at 9:30 and back at 3:30 with pick-up and return. It is quite popular so 2 months in season is not too far in advance to make email reservations. Off seasons maybe 2-3 weeks I just do not know. The boat takes 12-13 and is just a very little tight on a sailboat but it is not a 35 person zoo perade.

In Bermuda I have used Blue Water Divers for my dive equipment. They also rent snorkles (http://www.divebermuda.com/rates/Watersports.aspx) In my experience they keep clean and well maintained equipment.

For additional options

I tend to think txgirlinbda's advice is the best. If you bring your own you can be assured of its condition and cleanliness.

Have fun. Bermuda is another world.
