Bequia or Virgin Gorda?

Jump to last reply

After much debate have decided to go a whole different direction with next trip.
Really wanna go to Dominica but will wait until we have more time.
Am looking for good diving and snorkeling, culture, inexpensive eats, rum and limin.
Still have Tobago on the mind, but husband says I need to sell him on it. Originally thought Tortola but am concerned it's maybe to busy? Any thoughts and opinions are greatly appreciated!!
Exactly why I should plan ahead, too many choices, too little $$ And time!

Everyone has their favs, but I personally loved Virgin Gorda much more than Bequia. They have completely different feels to them.

Bequia is a sailors island, laid back. The only real snorkeling is at Tobago Cays (which are scrumptious by the way) but hears the thing, weather conditions can keep you from going to them, other Grenadines, including Mustique.

I personally much prefer the other Grenadines, Canouan, Mayraou, Palm Island. Easier to hop around them, but all are tiny by themselves.

I've been to 85% of the islands, and for some reason Bequia is one of my least favorites. Others love it, I just want you to know it's probably me, not the place. I think it's just I love other islands so much more that this one didn't do anything for me. On the other hand, I loved Palm Island, Tobago Cays.

It did feel like 2 different trips though, Bequia is hard to day trip to other Grenadines (which I loved more) based on weather and logistics. (and sometimes can't get from Bequia to other Grenadines)

Other than Tobago Cays, I found snorkeling to be quite average in Bequia, these are more sailing grounds.

Virgin Gorda on the other hand, is one of my favorites in entire Caribbean. Much better snorkeling, hop around rest of Virgin Islands, gorgeous beaches. Jost Van Dyke and St. john's are also fantastic.

Money might mke a difference to you though, VG is a more expensive overall destination.

To Bequia lovers, please forgive me, it's truly just my opinion. Can't describe why I didn't like Bequia, maybe because I've been everywhere and loved other islands much more. I did love the other Grenadines, but want to be clear it's just my opinion.

Thank you Blamona! We know all to well about the conditions for the Tobago Cayes.
Took a trip last time we went to Grenada. Although the day was fun and we saw lots of turtles the overcast conditions and choppy waters were less than stellar for a pricey day trip.
But we do love Grenada and that area.
Any experience with Tobago? Seems like it has just about everything but hard to find people who have been.
For some reason I'm picturing the BVI's as more Americanized. Probably wrong.
We liked St John but felt like something was missing.
Hands down best snorkeling and diving we've done is Roatan, however it was a lil built up.
Bet it was amazing 10 years ago.
