Has anyone stayed at the newly built Bequia Beach Hotel? Or do you have suggestions on best places to stay. We prefer something on the beach with a small kitchenette. My husband and I have never been to Bequia but want to go because we've heard it it like St. Barts but not as developed. St. Barts is our favorite place and we've been there many times usually staying on St. Jean beach at Les Ilets de la Plage. We are looking for a similiar place on Bequia.
Also, we've found that SVG Air has recently started flying from St. Lucia to Bequia daily which will make connections with the non-stop Delta Atlanta/ St. Lucia flight. Any other suggestions on getting to Bequia from Atlanta, GA.

OK, Bequia is NOT St, Bart's in any way shape or form. Extremely laid back, to us almost primative. A place for sailors. We've been to St. Bart's 3 times and Bequia once.
We had looked forward to seeing Bequia on a sailboat tour. Unfortuneately for us---nothing there.
I don't want to do it unjustice, but be prepared for an extremely remote experience.
I would also say that Bequia is completely unlike St. Barths, but for me, that happened to be a good thing. There are some very luxurious private villas you can rent on Bequia, but their hotel and inn accommodations are not in the same league as St. Barths's are. We stayed at the Frangipani and our rooms were spacious and comfortable and very reasonably priced, but not luxuruious by any stretch.
Bequia is a sleepy island with a sleepy port, and I'd agree that unless you're looking for that, or unless you're a sailor, it might not be what you're looking for if you're looking for the next St. Barths. Maybe Mustique or Anguilla would be more your style.
If, however, Bequia is still sounding good to you, it takes some getting to. I hadn't heard about the SVG flights from St. Lucia, but you should make sure that they leave from the same airport you arrive in. Most US flights from the mainland arrive in the bigger airport in the south of the island, and most of the commuter airlines fly in and out of the smaller airport in the northern end. Getting from one airport to the other is either a short, expensive helicopter ride, or a long expensive taxi ride.
instead, I'd recommend flying to Barbados--does Delta fly nonstop ATL-Barbados (BGI is the airport code). If so, then pick up the SVG commuter flight from Barbados instead.
