Go to COCO BEACH at Plage d'Orient Bay on the French Side. Beautifull beach, nice restaurant - french cuisine & cool drinks, umbrellas and beach chairs/loungers for rent. Their website is www.cocobeach.com

I agree with Katitchepoint. It sounds like Orient Bay is where you want to be.
Any time we've been on a cruise that stopped in St. Martin we've gone to Orient Beach and rented chairs and had a nice lunch at one of the restaurants. Just get a taxi when you get off the ship. It's much cheaper and you can stay at the beach as long as you want. The ship's excursions only stay a couple hours.
