I am thinking of going to St Bart and wanted to know what the beach is like at the Guanahani. It is on the Grand Cul de Sac. Is it calm like the Caribbean Sea or rough like the ocean. Also is it soft white sand or pebbly?

It's not the best beach on the island-- the water isn't turquoise blue like the other areas of the island. It's a bit windy (alot of windsurfers when we were there for lunch at BouBou's). I recommend Hotel Isle de France which is on a beautiful white sand beach-- Flamands. That's where we stayed.
The beach at Guanahani is soft white sand. Grand Cul de Sac is protected by a reef, and the water is extremely calm, even a timid swimmer will have no problem.
If you like ocean waves, though, you get that too - just turn around and face the other direction (literally!) -connecting to Guanahani's beach is Anse Maréchal, with ocean surf. You have the best of both worlds there!
The Beach at Flamands is very nice, and you almost always have it basically all to yourself. This is ocean surf, and while it is usually swimmable, it can get a bit rough at times.
