Bareboating, July USVI,

Is there any of you that can tell us if there is a need for air conditioning on Catamaran in late July in US or BVI? Many boats do not offer that convenience. Thanks, Londave.

My experience in July has been that there is no real need for air-conditioning, but this can vary based on your own tolerance of heat and on the conditions during your visit. Typically, there is enough breeze to keep things comfortable, as long as you choose an anchoring spot far enough away from shore (or don't stay in a marina). The only complication is when you have to close the hatches for the inevitable 2 a.m. downpour -- but this only lasts a few minutes and you'll be able to open back up.

We've been sailing BVI's twice during July. We considered it pretty darn hot and humid most days but we're coming from Colorado. Your tolerance may be greater. The tough part for us is sleeping since the low temp is around 80F. To run AC at anchor, the boat needs a generator running which might be worse than the heat. The winds are often light during the summer.
