Barcelo Solymar

I'm planning a trip to Varadero in December and have narrowed down my hotel selection to Tryp Peninsula, Barcelo Solymar or Melia Varadero. Worried Tryp is too far off the main strip and I haven't heard much about the other two. Any and all info on these hotels or any other hotel you would recommend would be appricated.

Hi

I have been to all three resorts this past July and loved them all!!! My favourite was the Tryp Peninsula --the grounds were perfectly manicured, the rooms were amazing, the food was good. The nightly entertainment was very well organized! They have a disco right in the hotel off the main lobby....That would be my top pick.

The Barcelo had a unique look it it...its like an 'art deco' kinda theme they have goin on...the resort is very bright and beautiful...is fairy new..only about a year or so old!
The beach is very nice as well!!!

The Melia I would say would be the top choice food/drink wise --and the reason being is that they offer the all inclusive and the not inclusive package....which means when you order a beer, you get it in a can/bottle, when you order a 'fruity' drink --you get a big one....because you just sign for everything --so they dont know if you are paying or not.....
they have two beach areas...the one side is nice for relaxing, but to get in the ocean is a bit diffiult as there is a lot of rocks at the shoreline..the other side is fine for swimming/snorkelling......and you will get the best sunset you ever saw at this resort!!!
The rooms are nicely decorated, wide variety of restaurants -the buffet was amazing!!! They have a disco and karoke bar as well

So take your pick.....They are all great choices, and I am sure you will have a wonderful time!
Any more questions, let me know!

Thanks Laura for the info. Okay, forget Barcelo and Melia, Tryp sounds amazing. You confirmed what many others have told me, thanks. One more question, if you don't mind, is the beach by the Tryp as nice as on the main strip? I heard the beach at the Tryp isn't as wide as other areas. I don't care if it's not too wide so long as it's as gorgeous as everywhere else. Oh yeah, any info on Beaches Varadero? Thanks again for the info.

The Tryp is on the same beach, but as you get to the end of the strip it gets narrower. I still thought it was amazing, and loved absolutly everything about the resort. The disco was fun, I liked the food, and found the grounds to be the best around.

Just got back from there recently, the greatest place. Beach is narrower, but just as beautiful. You will love it. Go and see the nightly shows, they are incredible. The rooms are huge and cleaned constantly. Food is fine, for Cuba.
