Barbados, Turks and Caicos or San Maarten?

My boyfriend and I are in our mid 30s, interested in easy flts from NYC, nice hotel without breaking the bank, good nightlife (more casual-not uppity), great beaches and nice pools too. Trying to choose between St. MAarten, Barbados and Turks and Caicos....any suggestions and also hotel ideas?

St. Maarten has a horrible nightlife unless you are really into gamabling. I went there for my honeymoon 5 years ago and stayed for 10 days. I was ready to leave after 5.

Not much nightlife in Turks and Caicos, so if that's a huge must, you might want to think about something elsewhere.

St. Maarten has a horrible night life??
hardly!
St. Maarten has a very active night life. Yes, there are casinos.. There also are fabulous restaurnats, great bars, and many clubs. there is live music all over the place.
it is a great party island

Been to Turks and Caicos. Absolutley NO nightlife. Haven't been to the others you listed. Look into Aruba. Wonderful nightlife. Definatley not uppity and great beaches. We loved it.

I have to second Barbados. Nightlife, great restaurants in all price ranges, hotels in all price ranges. Recommend you stay on the south coast St Lawrence Gap area. More Bohemian, less stuffy. Walk to great bars and rests. at night. Great hotels we've stayed at--Bougainvillea and Southern Palms.

Def. rent a car and drive around. Go to Crane Beach one day; Holetown another. Have fun!

Peace, Greenie

I would absolutely go to Barbados! It's an amazing place with friendly people and a great night life. Fabulous beaches. We stayed at Royal Pavillion. It's incredible!

Have been to St Martin and Turks and Caicos. Turks and Caicos is fantastic with really amazing beaches and nice pools. You can probably find a nice place to stay at for a reasonable price there. We've stayed at Point Grace and Parrot Cay. As far as other places that may not break the bank as much I have heard from reading on the forums that Royal West Indies and Coral Gardens are nice. I am sure you can get more information on hotels once you decide on your island.
Nightlife really is just focused on going to the nice restaurants in the area. We would go grab a cocktail at the bar and hang out for a while and then get seated for a little later of a dinner. It was definitely low key but really nice.

St Martin did have more to do than T&C. You have the option of going to a couple of different areas (good to have a car on this island.) We don't really like to go out late night or dancing etc when we are on vacation but we did go to several nice restaurants that we enjoyed and because the island is so big (relative I know) it did eat up some more time.

Never been to Barbados..

Just an FYI. There are some great auction deals on Luxurylink.com for Point Grace T&C. You may be able to get a high price resort at a more reasonable resort price. I haven't been there, but it has fantastic reviews.

Rachelantell, just so you know, the Crane is in a remote location, a pretty good ride from most things, and while on a beautiful beach, fairly rough water for swimming and no snorkeling.

Rachel,
You have chosen a tropical paradise for your honeymoon. You will be glad that you rented a car as Barbados has many wonderful restaurants that you must try - especially the ones with the fabulous fish. Best wishes.

Hi driscoll8. Of the 3 St. Maarten has alot of nightlife when cf to T&C. Barbados to us has the best beaches and awesome restaurants. I also suggest the South Coast or West Coast Rachelle. The Crane while a great hotel we were able to exchange Timeshare there in the past , but I have since opted not to stay there as I found it too isolated, a drive in to the Gap and basically the pink sand beach loses its appeal after awhile, its small, was a bit rough when we were there and its a a walk down to the beach, unlike many other resorts. We have also stayed at Casuarina,Bouganvilla and Amaryllis with our kids. But for a honeymoon I suggest Sandy Bay.

xkenx -- we actually wanted a remote location on an island with plenty to do. That's why we rented a car! Andy why we did not want all-inclusive.

How could you get tired of crane beach? It's one of the most beautiful beaches I've ever seen...here's a link from our trip last Fall.
