Barbados question where to stay

Going to Barbados with senior citizen, 2 adults and a 7 year old. Stayed at Accra Hotel once in Bridgetown. Adults liked centralized, city location. They want that again. I read Holetown may be better due to calmer waters. Do I need to rent a car? Anyone know a very good hotel ? accra was nice but I have seen better. It is clean but restaurants in hotel were mediocre . Please suggest stuff to me. We are not leaving again till February 2016. Thank you for your help.

We just returned and stayed at Bougainvillea it was a great place to stay. It was clean, the staff were wonderful. On the down side the water is somewhat rough. One does need a car or take a taxi wherever you go. The driving is on the right side and steering wheel on left. We opted not to rent a car. I am sure others will chime in eventually. If I returned I would probably would try Divi resorts the Heritage. I know it is on calmer waters.

I live in Barbados. You didn't indicate whether you were interested in AI or self-catering but I would recommend checking out Coral Sands or Tamarind as well. Necessity of a vehicle depends on how much moving around you'd like to be doing and your comfort with public transport because many of the resorts are situated purposely on busy public transport routes (Driving is on the left and steering wheel on the right btw). To give you more info I'd have to ask more questions about what you had in mind.

Possible properties to checkout with great restaurants onsite or nearby may be helpful depending on budget.

South Coast:

Hilton ( Barbados )

Southern Palms Hotel ( at the corner of St. Lawerence Gap and on Dover Beach)

Amaryllis Hotel.
