Bahamas Out Island or Cayman Islands?

We are looking to go, in June, to the Caribbean. Two adults, three young children and two grandparents. Would like to have some activities for 6 and 8 year old to experience; a mother-in-law that needs to keep busy with shopping or exploring, and myself and hubby hoping to find food we like (we're not too adventurous, food-wise)

We'd consider staying at a resort, but renting a home or condo would be more cost effective. Night life is not needed, just want best place to keep people happy, good weather, beautiful beaches, not too, too crowded, but things to do or places to visit.

We're open to other islands, the Bahamas and Cayman Islands seem to have reasonable airfare from Milwaukee. With the Bahamas, I like the swimming with pigs idea, and with the Cayman Islands, a post mentioned renting a golf cart and being able to easily access shopping and restaurants in the SMB area. --- I know, those two things are completely unrelated!

(I've read similar posts; but I'm still overwhelmed with making the decision.) Thank you in advance for any suggestions!

look at condos on seven mile. more quiet & better beach towards the north end of the beach. lots of dining options. shopping for mil. stingray city & some pirate stuff for the kids. i don't think you can take a golf cart into town - way too busy to be safe.

bahamas will be nice when kids are a bit older & more independent

I agree, the Grand Cayman would have more things to see and do for everyone. 7 Mile Beach is gorgeous.

Grand Cayman sound like the place you are looking for. There are plenty of condos to rent on Seven Mile Beach in Grand Cayman. Eating in the condo will save you a lot of money There are supermarkets close by.There are many good restaurants, easily accessible, but they are not cheap. I agree with the post above that the north part of Seven Mile Beach is less crowded.

Your kids will love Sting Ray city. You can also, swim with dolphins or ride horses on the beach.

Unfortunately, you can not ride a golf cart on the roads.

Yes, Cayman Islands seems a better choice for your group, but you may want to look at Harbour Island in the Bahamas. But realize that in order to get to Harbour Island there are extra fees and travel time.

And the Out Islands of the Bahamas, while lovely, are even more difficult and expensive to reach. People often don't realize that just because it's cheap to get to Nassau it's not so cheap to get elsewhere in the Bahamas. But I don't think the Out Islands would suffice for you. There's no shopping and really nothing to do except for the beach and water activities. That's great for kids but not for someone who wants something else to do during the day.

I agree with all of the above posts. I think GC is a good match based on your interests and particularly the North end of 7 mile beach as someone already mentioned. Lots of activity, nice restaurants (exp) and a great beach.
