Aruba vs. Turks & Caicos - June Honeymoon
Hello,
My fiance and I are trying to narrow down which Island and then which hotel/resort (all inclusive vs. standard) would be best to honeymoon at (June for 7 nights). We're coming from New England and neither has been to either of these Islands (I've only been to Bahamas). Any advice? Or perhaps suggest a different island? We would like to do some snorkeling, SUP boarding, possibly golf and enjoy some Caribbean beverages (of course!) - we like to be active but also have relax time too, a balance that we don't want to get bored but also don't want to fill every minute of each day with rigid activity - looking to stay under $2,000
Any advice would be fabulous, thank you!

Your budget is tight, if it includes air.
Aruba is fun! No real snorkeling Great shopping, casinos, nightlife. Cruise ships, fast foods, tons of palm trees
T&C has nice snorkeling and one of the best beaches in the world. Ultra romantic but expensive restaurants. Not much nightlife. SUP boarding
both have golf
June should have specials.
So both are kinda opposite each other (give up snorkel for nightlife, for ex.)
Great places to snorkel, with a little more nightlife, Virgin Islands, Caymans. But your budget won't go far.

T & C does not have AI resorts that would be good for a honeymoon. Aruba has a few, but going AI there can be a waste as there is so many really great dining/bar options in various price ranges and part of the experience there is trying as many as you can.
I found snorkeling just OK in both destinations. There are definitly better Islands for snorkeling. T & C is probably better for diving. Aruba has lots of night life and things to see and do. Shopping is good. T & C not so much. Though we loved Grace Bay Beach and the water, a 6 night stay got to be rather boring especially at night. Most excursions are water based.
If you decide to go the AI route, with that low budget, Mexico would be the better option. Really great lux AI resorts and much better snorkeling at better prices than the Caribbean. No way did we go to T & C or Aruba for $2,000 with air. It was way more than that. Throw in food, drinks and excursions add about another $1,500 to that. In T & C you really need a car to get around. Aruba has fabulous public transportation.
Those destinations are really opposite of each other. It really depends on what you want to do on your vacation. I would say you will probably relax more in T & C than Aruba since Aruba has more things to see and do.

I don't think you can do either place with that budget, even in June. We just got back from Aruba (fifth visit with relatives) and didn't find it as cheap as everyone thinks. Even Dunkin Donuts was about triple what you'd pay at home.
Definitely look at Mexico and the Dominican Republic for cheaper deals. Keep in mind, too, that June can be beautiful in the islands or pretty rainy. We've had some vacations with perfect weather, and others nearly rained out. Just a warning so you won't be surprised! Check weather stats on any island before you go.
