aruba or Curacao

My wife and I are heading to either Aruba or Curacao in July. Can anyone recommend one over the other? I have seen one post although the response is somewhat dated.
Any information would be great.
Thanks

Replies will be completely hit and miss unless you tell us what it is that you find desirable in an island destination.
(For instance, if I like diving and gambling and you like neither then my opinion won't help at all).

We have been to both - to Aruba many times, to Curacao only twice. So it will be obvious that we prefer Aruba. The main reason is that it feels very safe. We were back on Aruba just two months ago, after a long absence. The island looked prosperous, with business (tourism) bomming. Yes, it is very touristy, but we don't really mind. We stayed at a very nice quiet hotel, Bucuti Beach. The beach (Eagle Beach) is great. We have always stayed in this part of Aruba, i.e. the 'low-rise' section. Bottom line:
-Aruba is touristy, 'Americanized', but safe, with very friendly people, beautiful beaches and the best climate in the world.
- Curacao is more of an 'authentic experience', beaches not so beautiful, more crime and people less friendly. Of course the climate is the same, they are that close together.
Hope this helps!

Our best vacation memories are on Curacao. Great shopping, friendly people, nice restaurants and good food.

My husband and I honeymooned in Curacao and Aruba this past winter.
We would choose Curacao hands down, The island is friendly, great, and much for low key and not as commercialized as Aruba. The town is like a little dutch city to the eye. The only place to stay in our opinion is The Marriott Emerald Resort and Casino. I can't say enough about this beautiful, romantic and amazing property. You can always do a day trip to aruba set up via the marriott tour desk for 50 dollars or so a person. They even set you up for the day at the Marriott in Aruba and the plane ride is 15 minutes. Then you have the best of both worlds.
Don't miss the swim with Dolphins in the ocean at the Seaaquarium. Great bars down there too. Curacao is our choice by far. Have a wonderful time

Saw both in February. Aruba without a doubt. MUCH better hotel/beach area with more to do for tourists. Also, a much wider range of nice hotels. Town area is nice too and feels safe.

I highly disagree as to the crime in Curacao. We explored the entire island and never experienced anything but very nice people and NO crime. Even went to the grocery stores. We loved Curacao because the people welcomed us.
