We have traded our Marriott time share for the first time. We have put in a trade request for the Marriott Ocean Club in Aruba. Interval International called last week to make sure we understood that we were requesting a property that is of not the same quality as the property we "own". They said we would have to sign a document that we understand that the property we are requesting is not the same quality and that we won't go back to Marriott with any disputes regarding the quality. This makes us very unsure of our request. Has anyone had this experience with their time share broker making them sign this type of document?

I guess my first question is where do you own? We stayed at the Marriott Ocean Club in Aruba last year and it was one of the nicest resorts we've ever stayed at. The resort was spotless, the staff very accomodating, beach and pool great. I don't own at this Marriott, but I would in a heartbeat.

I am an owner at Hyatt Hacienda Del Mar, an II gold property. Thus far we have only traded to gold level properties so have never been asked to sign any kind of waiver. What I find very odd is that Marriott Aruba Ocean Club is listed as a gold property in the Interval book, in fact, it is on our list to trade into. I would call them back and make sure they have the right property -- we have had incidences where they have confused properties. Ask them why you would have to sign a waiver for a Gold level property, it is all very strange. Check out the timeshare users group (I think it is www.tug2.net for reviews of all properties.

Ann, I noticed that Marriott also manages The Renaissance in Aruba. I am not familiar w/ that property & wonder of it is simply a 're-naming' of their Marriott Resort & Casino in Aruba. Howver, I thought I'd mention it on the off chance that Marriott has acquired a condo property in Aruba & renamed it! If that happens to be the case, then they wld. own/manage 2 condo properties in Aruba: The Ocean Club and The Renaissance. It is probably best for you to call Marriott Vacation Club/Interval International & speak with someone about the "Acknowledgement/Waiver" they want you to sign.

The Marriott Ocean Club on Palm Beach in Aruba is wonderful. The rooms were very clean, the service was great, and it is right on the beach. I viewed the Ocean club rooms last week while staying at the Marriott Resort next door. Marriott did just recently acquire the Sonesta Suites and renamed it Renaissance Aruba Beach Resort. The Marina tower is a hotel and the Beach tower is timeshare units. In my opinion, Marriott should have never put their name on this property until they upgraded the rooms and the attitude of the staff. I was very disappointed in the Renaissance, so we checked out and went to the Marriott on Palm Beach.

So, Ann, Marriott may be attempting to book you in @ Sonesta Suites!! (Now called the Renaissance). Don't sign the Waiver! In fact, you should demand that they guarantee your reservation @ The Ocean Club. Get something in writing.
