Message: My fiancee and i are going to aruba in July and staying at Bucuti Resort Tara Suites... Now we really want to know the MUST-DO things and good places to eat. Any suggestions would be great.

I have heard goog things about Flying Bone Fish Restaurant and Iguana Joe's.
I am also interested in the jeep tour vs renting your own jeep.

Hi. You will have a great time in Aruba! You picked a wondeful place to stay.

As far as restaurants, do not miss El Gaucho. Best meal I have ever had. Amazing Argentinian steaks, awesome sangra and impeccable service. We never made it to Flying Fishbone but I heard graet things. Also, try Marandi.

For a casual lunch, dinner or happy hour, go to Kokoa's on teh end of the DePalm pier next to the Radisson. Great happy hour specials and light fare. Fun atmosphere and great view of the sunsets.

We did the ABC Defender tour which was fun, but if I were to do i again, I'd rent a 4x4 and do it on my own. Also a fun way to see the Natural Bridge and Pool is the ATV tour.

Jolly Pirates has a great snorkel cruise with a fun rope swing.

And you must do the Kukuoo Kunuku Party Bus. It was a blast! You get picked up at your hotel by a pyschedelic 57 chevy open air bus. Music is playign an everyone is wavinf maracas. First you go to the CA lighthouse for a sunset, champagne toast, then you have dinner at some dignitary's house, then it's off to sveral local bars with Carlos N Charlies usually being the last stop.

Now I want to go!

Have fun!

Avoid the jeep tour at all costs!Madame Janettes is awesome....Iguana Joes is good for luch.We stayed in the Tara Suites in the Spring....they were good (not 5 star..but nothing on Aruba is)but good.Aruba isnt known for its stellar snorkeling, but do a snorkeling catamaran tour..its a fun diversion.Keep in mind that Aruba is very "light"..you arent going to be blown away by anything....culturally, scenically, etc.

You will love Aruba, its my favorite Caribbean island by far. Definitely rent the jeep and see the coral bridge and swimming hole on the rougher side of the island. We didn't love the food, but missed Madame Jeanette's which I hear is great, also heard good things about El Gaucho. Steer clear of Buccaneer and Driftwood, not good. Almost all the hotels on Palm Beach have casinos which are a lot of fun. Have a great time!

After many trips to Aruba it is amazing how many good restaurants there are. Very good restaurants include Madame Janette, Marandi (request sunset table), Chalet Suisse, Flying Fishbone, El Gaucho and Ruinas Del Mar. Dine on local cuisine at Gasparito while sitting in the patio of an authentic cunucu house under the stars. If you just want a pizza one night try Tomato Charlie's. Tango Restaurant serves very good ribs and tango dancers will perform for you.
All these restaurants have websites online.
We have also stayed at the Bucuti where we had a great time, the beach is just beautiful. We also had the dinner on the beach (by advance reservation) at the Bucuti and it was very romantic. The food was good but not great but the atmosphere was wonderful. They will give you a personalized copy of the menu for the night you were there to keep.
If you rent a car even for a day or so drive up to the lighthouse and look down on the island--it's a fantastic view!

We were at Bucuti September 2004 & loved it. Eagle Beach is gorgeous & we will definitely go back to Bucuti.
Rent a Jeep & go to the Natural Bridge. We rented a Jeep for 1 day & next time would get it for two days.
Good places to eat are Madame Jeanette's & El Gaucho. At Madame Jeanette's reserve a table outside, I heard inside is stuffy & hot. Outside was great though. I had lobster & J had steak. Crab cake appy is super good. Mama Jamaica is the best dessert ever.
At El Gaucho, steak is the specialty & is amazing. The white wine sangria is great. There are mariachis that walk around & play at each table if you sit downstairs.
We had Flying Fishbones reservations but they were cancelled in anticipation of Ivan (which never hit). If you go, get a reservation about 30-45 minutes before sunset b/c you sit in tables on the beach.
I heard Chalet Swisse & Sunset Grille were good, we didn't go there though.
Lunches at Bucuti are good & cheap (Chicken sadwiches or tender, BLT's, salads, etc.)
Have fun in Aruba. We plan to return next fall.
