Areas near Caribe Hilton - San Juan

Hi all. I'm going to be attending a conference at the Caribe Hilton Hotel from 3/14 -3/17 and need to find somewhere nearby to stay. The Caribe is a little expensive for me so I'm trying to find somewhere in the area that is relatively accessible to the hotel. Which areas should I be looking at?
On a map, it looks like Miramar, Puerta de Tierra, and Old San Juan are the closest..is it easy to get to the hotel from any of those areas? And if you guys have specific hotels/motels/hostels that are good, that would also be awesome.
Any help would be much appreciated! Thanks all!

All of those areas are close to Caribe Hilton. Condado is also relatively close. They are a very short cab ride or bus trip. Within walking distance to the Caribe Hilton is the Normandie. That should be somewhat less expensive than the Caribe.

Ibelieve the Normandie is NO MORE...

The Condado area is the closest to Caribe Hilton. The Conrad Hotel is right by the bridge that connects Condado to San Juan and, depending on your physical condition or preferences, you could conceivably walk to the Hilton from there.

Also there is a Sheraton in the Convention Center area (not to be confused with the Sheraton Old San Juan)that is not too far from the Hilton.

Lastly, you could try bidding on Priceline or Hotwire for lower than advertised rates.
We just got the Sheraton Old San Juan for $115/night for March.

Ajilimojili - did the Normandie close? It wasn't too long ago that it was completely refurbished.

I think you'll find it easiest to get to the Caribe Hilton from Condado, but I'm not sure you'll find many cheaper hotels there. If you are really pinching pennies, then look into the city bus, but I'm not sure that I'd walk to the Caribe Hilton from anywhere in the vicinity (certainly not from Old San Juan). So you need to figure transportation costs into the mix.
