Hi Kelvin, We loved staying on Worthing Beach when we were there for the very first time in late Feb and early March. I have a coworker who is looking for a place in Barbados that can handle three couples. (They travel with their grown children.) So they're interested in a condo or villa with 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms that is on the water. If you know of any place, it would be a big help. Thank you!

Hi, just thought I'd answer from my perspective.

We're staying in a 3 bedroom villa this year - it's called Gibbs Lodge. It's on the West Coast. We found this through Island Hideaways - they can be found at:
www.islandhideaways.com
There are lots of 3 bedrooms available.

You might consider Eden-on-the-Sea or Firefly (same complex) - -really lovely.

Regards,

Lois

Can you recommend a reasonable package deal in late August? Is it too hot then? Thank you.

We are planning a trip to Barbados and are looking a place to stay with laid back elegance. We don't necssarily need ot be entertained. Mid-40's with the usual stress-filled jobs looking for stress relief in the sun....we are from Massachusetts where the temps only hit 50 today!!!! We like nice accomodations, good food and good wine, a nice beach in a peaceful, intimate setting...not asking for too much, are we???

In November the INDEPENDENCE PRO SURFING CHAMPIONSHIPS & BANKS PRO LONG BOARD CLASSIC ? held in the 'SOUP BOWL? in Bathsheeba. So that probably is the peak time, but you can surf from June through November with good winds.

Some interesting facts are that a spot named Soup Bowl is internationally recognized in the surfing world. Also you can do regular surfing and kitesurfing.

I forgot to add this morning that the airfare you quoted from DC is excellent. Now that USAirways serves DC/Philly/Barbados it gives American some competition. Also check out BWIA which flys non-stop from Dulles Airport. In the past we've paid over $700 to get to Barbados; years ago it used to average about $460.

We are planning a trip the first week in December- we've narrowed down to Barbados or St. John- we don't scuba, but like nice, safe places and want to relax on the beach. The concerns that I had from reading are that "shorts" aren't okay in public- this seems odd, but we don't want to go somewhere that we can't wear summer wear and must wear long pants - (just seems odd to us..) also, not into partying and wondering where a very nice place to stay would be- with a great beach area- also do they allow watercrafts such as jet skis, and somewhere that offers parasailing- any help would be great!

Shorts are fine in public. At some restaurants in the evening they do not want shorts, but everyone wears shorts for touring around, etc.

Barbados is a very safe island. We've traveled throughout its 166 sq. miles and have always felt safe.

A great beach we enjoy is Sandy Beach on the South Coast - you see all sorts of water sports here. I'll give you a link so you can view it. http://www.barbados.org/bcstlawbay.htm

On this beach a great resort is Coral Sands Beach Resort - you can see their website at: www.coralsandsresort.com

If you want West Coast, check out Sandy Lane, Coral Reef Club, Tamarind Cove or Treasure Beach. You can find most on the Tourism Board's website: www.barbados.org and look under hotels.

Sandy Lane has it's own site which is www.sandylane.com

There are many wonderful places to explore and some fabulous restaurants. If you are interested please write me directly at [email protected] and I'd be glad to reply.

Hi Kelvin (and Lois too)
Thanks for that comprehensive list Kelvin - I'll print it out at some point to take with me!
I have one quick, very generalised question about weather. We are due to vacation for the first time in Barbados (at Turtle Beach Resort on the south coast) for 6 nights from August 25th, after spending 6 nights in Antigua. I know we are arriving during the rainy/hurricane season, but just wondering how much rain to expect and at what time of day. I know this is an impossible question so really, as a resident of the island, I'm looking for your general opinion of weather trends during late August. Thanks.

HI Hedghog,
The weather around the August period tend to be rather unpredictable but for what mostly happens, it rains for a day or two, then get 3-4 days of sunshine, then the rain comes again.

At that time it is approaching the heavier rainfall periods. That is about the best I can tell you through experience.

Hi -
I would agree with Clifton. We've been there mid August a couple of times and have encountered some showers. First time this occurred we had a mini-moke and it was not good with rain (we got wet). Now we always rent regular cars. Just be prepared and take a small umbrella along.
