We are simple people, no need for A/C or luxury but do want VERY CLEAN and pleasant. All these are in the Grand Anse beach area, I believe...we live in the boonies at home, and aren't really looking for seclusion; we love people watching and meandering in towns, but wouldn't want to be on a busy road. Advice appreciated...this is our first trip to the Caribbean, and Grenada sounds great. (We are considering a few days each in St. Vincent and Barbados too...any comments on similar lodging there?) SoaringHawk, sorry I don't have any answers for you. I'm currently planning my trip to Grenada also. When are you going? We are looking to do so during low season...late April, early-mid May of next year. I would like to slit the time and stay on Grenada and one of the other islands such as Carriacou.
Hopefully we get some helpful responses. Did you find any good airfare deals?

Andrea, We are using our (very first) award trip from U.S. Air and are going in Jan.-Feb. I hope too to get some input though because "simple" can mean a lot of things. I'll e-mail you after we are back about where we stayed. Since posting my question I've read good things about the No Problem Apt. Hotel, too, in Frommer's Caribbean on $70 a Day... it is very helpful.

I have reservations now at Caribbean Cottage Club, a new (just opened Sept.) facility with 7 individual cottages, just off the main (minibus) road in a residential area near Grand Anse Beach. The price for their first year of operation was excellent: $50 for a double, including service, with kitchenette. The manager, Vittoria, has been exceedingly pleasant and helpful, and the place looks great on the website, www.grenadacottages.com. I will send a report in Feb.

I was on a Southern Caribbean cruise last month and my group of friends enjoyed an afternoon at Grande Anse beach at the Flamboyant hotel (http://www.flamboyant.com/). We really liked the location, which was on the far end of the beach with wonderful views from the top of the restort area. With the exception of a few locals trying to sell their spices (you'll find that everywhere on the island - just politely say "thanks, we already bought some"), we had the place to ourselves. They have a nice pool. I can't comment on the rooms. There were lots of steps from the main road down to the water. At the beach, there is a bar where you can order drinks and food, chaning rooms and an outdoor shower. Half way back towards the town was the Marriott, which looked very nice, but I liked the smaller Flamboyant. You might want to do a search and see if this hotel has been recommended by other fodorites who have actually stayed there.
I have stayed at the Flamboyant but not in the past few years. From miptraveller's description, however, it seems little changed. Assuming this is the case, the rooms were very adequate and very clean. Our had AC, which we did not need and a small balcony that we enjoyed. Some larger rooms have kitchenettes. Make sure when booking that you are not in one of the rooms lower down whose view is blocked by the other buildings. If you go, and if Lawrence is still the manager, say hi.
