I have seen the Anegada beach cottages mentioned in various threads but have not seen any feedback from anyone who has stayed there? I am considering booking 7-8 days and was wondering if anyone had first hand experience of the accommodations, property manager ect.
Thank you
Anyone stayed at the Anegada beach cottages?

Also considering a stay at the White Bay Villa/Cottages on Jost. Is there anyone that has stayed there recently?
Try posting your question on the BVI forum of Travel Talk Online. It is a very active forum and has a wealth of information.
thanks for the suggestion brenandg
Stayed on Anegada but not at the beach cottages. Have you checked the posts on tripadvisor.com - there was someone there talking about cottages not long ago.
We only spent 1 hour in a taxi going around since the snorkeling was terrible. All te accommodations we saw were very basic, too basic compared to a mid-range small Caribbean resort.
Anegada is an awesome island unlike others you will find... but you will not find any resorts on the island.
Thank you for the responses. I know there are no resorts in Anegada, basic is ok too. That is the beauty of the island for us! We have been there on a day trip but did not have an opportunity to check accommodations out. Couldn’t tear ourselves away from the beach!
Stan, I'm curious where you snorkeled on Anegada since you're the first person I've read who has said the snorkeling there is terrible. Your standards for snorkeling are higher than mine (Dare I say that you come across as militant? I guess I do dare.) but what other Caribbean islands could you compare the snorkeling on Anegada to? Better or not as good as Tortola? Virgin Gorda? Those are probably the two islands where I had the most fun snorkeling. I've never been to St. John or snorkeled outside the Caribbean before. Thanks!
ejcrow; I am not militant, just truthful. According to a number of articles in the Science Section of the NY Times, Dive Magazine and other publications, overall in excess of 40% of the coral in the US and B.V. I.'s was dead at the end of 2004. It takes 10-20 years for coral to regenerate assume global warming and pollution stopped today.
At Anegada we snorkeled for 2+ hours in Loblolly Bay and 1 hour in Cow Wreck. All the dive/snorkel boat operators told us those are the only places they go for the best snorkeling left in Anegada. On our last visit to VG in 2001 we found quality snorkeling around the island.
St. John around Caneel is fortunate to, for reasons I cannot explain, have far more healthy coral and many more fish, sea anenomes and buitiful sea fans and sponges.
Just read the praise about snorkeling off Caneel's 7 beaches in this Chat Room of visiters there as recently as 2005-2006.
I cannot speak to Tortola but in 2004 we sailed on the Windstar Lines-Wind Spirit and found the coral much healthier around Jost Van Dyke, Cooper and some areas around Norman Island. What shape the corals are in 2+ years later, I cannot tell you. Also we went to the Caicos Islands in 2005 was quite good.
Probably the best snorkeling we have found in the past 3 years in the Caribbean would be the WEST END of Curacao and a few spots left off Grand Cayman and Cayman Brac. Going a bit more south and west a large portion of the reef off Belize and Honduras (Bay Islands) was great in 2004-2005. We are returning next March to Roatan, Honduras because several friends who are also avid snorkelers were there in Feb. and said it is still great.
In National Geographics and the American Scientist magazines they discuss how bleaching of the coral, because of global warming, has begone to affect the health of the Great Barrier Reef off Australia. We were there in 2002 and it was ALL healthy with vibrant colors, 5-6 diiferent colored brain coral, sea fans and more fish than you can imagine.
Our trip in April/May of this year found excellent snorkeling around Koh Tao and the Phi Phi Islands off Thailand and the best in the past 4-5 years was our trip to the Redang and Prehentian Islands off the S.E. coast of the Malaysian Penninsula.
I hope this answers your questions.
ej,
Are you still considering going to Anegada for the day? I would love to visit that island, but dang it is hard to get to. It's impossible from STJ for the day from what I have researched. The best I can figure is that I would need 2 nights in Tortola to coincide with the ferry schedule and customs. If you decide to go, enjoy! I am not even a snorkeler, but would just like to experience Anegada.
