Anyone know status of Landings at St. Lucia?
I got an email about a 96 hour sale for this Rock Resort in St. Lucia.
I know that there are several phases of the construction project--but does anyone have any first hand knowledge of how the property looks, i.e., does it look like a depressing construction site?
Tripadvisor reviews weren't that helfpul. Thanks!

We just returned from a week-long stay at The Landings, and it was fabulous! About half of the project is completed, and they are working full-throttle on the remainder. We were in an ocean-front unit and the only
implications of the construction were: 1) the need to call for a shuttle to the reception area/spa/exercise room, which was painless (water taxis are also an option); 2) the spa is only offering a partial list of services at this time; 3) the view from the pool is the staging area for the construction equipment, but we only used the pool once during our stay because the oceanfront is too perfect to waste.
We have stayed all over the world, and the three-bedroom, oceanfront, third floor (tallest building is four stories) unit that we had was definitely the nicest water vacation accomodations that we have ever had. We appreciated the details in the architecture and the abundant dimmable lighting, the brand new Miele appliances (including a washer and dryer), the European cabinetry, the huge veranda (with a table for eight) that wrapped around to seating areas on each side with french doors leading to the master bedroom and a guest room, the fittings in the bathrooms, the plasma televisions, the plentiful seating (dining room table for 8), the extremely comfortable beds, the high-end spa toiletries, the soft linens(including robes and slippers), the completely appointed kitchen, the wall of windows to the veranda that completely opened, and the french doors from the kitchen to another private veranda.
We were given a $50/day credit per bedroom for dining + another $50/day credit per bedroom for the spa and water activities. We did water skiing, sailing lessons, banana boating, snorkeling, kayaking and just enjoyed floating on the wonderfully large foam floats from Frontgate that are free for the guests to use in the calm ocean waters. We also rented jet-skis from an independent operating that is next to the resort. The restaurant is on the ocean, and the waitstaff takes care of you all day while you relax under their umbrellas on the chaises at the ocean or the pool. There is soft live music in the afternoons. The water taxi took us to Pigeon Island for snorkeling and to Rodney Bay for dinner and shopping. All in all, we felt we got a fantastic deal with the price that we paid for the Family Fun package. Also, no one ever approached us to discuss buying or renting a unit.
The only drawbacks to St. Lucia were a lack of higher-end boutique shops, and the painfully slow service at every restaurant we tried (which probably says as much about our impatience as it does about their service!). There are impoverished areas, as there are on all of the other islands that we've visited.
The resort has contracted with a local driving/tour service that we highly recommend called Executive Club (758-45-29696 or www.executiveclubslu.com). Bruno and Christian were our drivers, tour guides, hosts and dinner companions, and they made our vacation complete. Last week there was an article in the local paper warning of kidnapping for ransom attempts that were spreading to St. Lucia from other islands. I mention this because it's easy to be lulled into a state of idyllic escapism, but unfortunately there is the need to be vigilant, and Bruno and Christian helped us in this regard. By the time we left, we had developed a slogan that "Bruno knows everyone and everything", and we encouraged him to run for Prime Minister or Director of Tourism for St. Lucia. I had tears in my eyes as I said goodbye to the staff at The Landings Restaurant and when I hugged Bruno goodbye at the airport. We fell in love the people of St. Lucia and everyone at the staff of the Landings wanted us to be happy. It was very hard to leave.
I hope this helps.
