Does anyone have some insights to offer a couple of 40-ish Canadians interested in spending New Year's eve in Old Havana? Is this a good time to be there? Do the Cubans celebrate NY eve, or do they save their celebrations primarily for religious holidays ?
Anyone experienced New Year's Eve in Havana ?

I spent NY Eve in Havana about three years ago.
I undestand that Cuba is a very different place
now, more turistic. Cubans do celebrate New Year's
Eve, but there were very few places to celebrate.
I stayed at my hotel, Villa Panamericana, and had
a great time. Hope this helps!
Try Hotel Inglaterra in the Old Havana. I stayed in Cuba this september. Things are worse in Cuba now. Begging and stealing is widespread. But there is no violence, and Cuba is really a charming and different country. I am sure the cubans will celebrate New Year's Eve in an excotic way. You hear music everywhere in Cuba. Have a nice trip!
First, religious holidays are frowned upon. Second, the nation is run by a tyrant and the people are not free. For more info visit: http://www.fiu.edu/~fcf/
