Anyone ever stayed at Ottleys?

Jump to last reply

I am going to Ottley's in ST. KITTS and wondered if there was anyone who stayed there who could answer some questions for me such as:

1. What beach does the shuttle go to?
2. What do you do if you need to buy sundries?
3. Is a car neeeded.

Thanks

Hi, sorry to answer with another question but has anyone compared Ottleys to the Golden Lemon? What did you think?
Also, is it worth it to splurge for the cottage vs. the Great House at either location?
    Thanks.

I haven't stayed at either, but I have eaten many times at both. Both are beautiful, but I much prefer Ottleys -- incredible grounds and views. The owners of each are incredibly friendly.

Ottleys is a bit closer to Bassetere (the main town) than Golden Lemon, and also somewhat closer to the best beaches, which are on the southern portion of St. Kitts.

I'm sure a shuttle can take you to Friar's Bay (the best beach), but it is also a beautiful island to drive around, although the road from the main road up to Ottley's is an adventure in itself (although for only about 5 minutes). I would recommend a car to go to the best beaches and for the best snorkeling -- less than a 30-minute drive. Near the airport (and not that far a drive from Ottleys), is a large grocery store, but the owners are so nice I'm sure they'd help you out with anything you need.

Saw your post with questions on Ottley's, and had to add my opinions.
My husband and I stayed at Ottley's for our honeymoon, and absolutely loved it! The food is out of this world and the accommodations are superb.

Let's see... in answer to your questions; Ottley's will provide transportation to wherever you need to go - the shuttle to the beach is Friars Beach on the gulf side, they do not take you to the southern beaches, so if that is where you would like to go, I suggest renting a car.

If you find that you need anything, just ask... Nancy, Marty, Art, Ruth and Karen are very friendly and helpful. As to is a car needed... that is really up to you. In our experience, we found that we would have prefered to rent a car and be able to explore at our leisure. If you use the shuttles the only down side is that you must wait until the designated time for pick-up to return to Ottley's.

I am rambling a little, so if you have any other questions please feel free to contact me directly.

We stayed in a cottage - and it was wonderfully romantic! The room was spacious and beautiful - with a huge, very comfortable bed, mini-fridge stocked with snacks and drinks, and a bathroom with whirlpool tub and separate shower. The floors are Italian tile, and the windows are louvered shutters - which you could close and turn on the air-conditioning if you prefered (which we did at night to mask out any morning noises that might wake us up too early).
When we stepped out of our cottage, we had a view of the ocean over the parrish of Ottley's (their version of a town - based on the old plantations and churches) that was beautiful. We had our own covered porch with comfy cushioned chairs and table and a deck with lounge chairs, umbrella and plunge pool. It was VERY romantic! We actually had an entire cottage, but you could get just one room.
We can honestly say nothing but praises for Ottley's - they made our wedding there and our honeymoon the most unforgetable experience of a lifetime! We look forward to returning on an anniversary soon. Please let me know if I can be of any help with questions for your upcoming trip! Enjoy!
