Any tips on travel to St. Kitts

My husband and I booked our trip to St. kitts for 5 days beginning of Oct. Staying at the Marriott. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Restaurants, tours, etc. Thanks.

Rent a car to explore the island.
Visit the Fort at Brimstone Hill, tour the batik factory at Romney Manor, take a ride on the Sugar Cane Railroad, visit the petroglyphs, take Greg's Safari tour, take the kayak tour from Turtle Beach, visit the Black Rocks and visit the Kate Spenser Gallery. As for restaurants, try Sprat Net, Dolce Cabana, Marshall's, Ballahoo, Ottley's Plantation to name a few.

Lots of good suggestions from Sunnyboy. I have only a couple more to add. If you are not a kayak sort of person - take a taxi to Turtle beach and see the monkeys and the great views of Nevis. If you were staying longer I would recommend a day trip to Nevis. Brimstone Hill is an absolutely must see. You can arrange a taxi tour that includes Brimstone Hill, Caribelle batik (at Romney Manor), the petroglyphs and the Black Rocks.

I think you will enjoy the Marriott. It is a large hotel, but we felt very secluded and the staff is super friendly and helpful. We did a rainforest hike through O'Neill's Safaris. The hotel knows him...we booked it right outside of the casino. Marshall's was awesome, as was Serendipity. We didn't make it to Sprat Net, but heard it was really good. The day trip to Turtle Beach was fun and the views on the way are amazing. Have fun! I so jealous as I will be back teaching school in Oct.

I highly recommend Stonewalls in addition to the other great restaurants that were mentioned. And as others know, I am a big fan of Nevis, so I recommend that you take a day trip. If you and your husband like driving, then rent a car, the road on the southern peninsula is a driver's dream.

You can't go wrong with any of the above suggestions.
However, be forewarned.............
Be very, very, careful that these two islands don't steal your heart........

Santa gives good advice. I think he had his heart stolen!

Do rent a car if you feel comfortable with that. You can drive around the island to see the sights and to the end of the Southern Peninsula to Turtle Beach and other more secluded beaches.

If you like snorkeling there is a terrific catamaran trip that you can take. It leaves Basseterre, stops for snorkeling, goes on to Nevis for a barbeque on the beach, and then returns. It's a great day trip.

You will love St. Kitts! It is a beautiful, unspoilt island with breathtaking views and deserted beaches.

I recommend PJ's located down the street from the Marriott (next to Island Paradise), Shiggidy Shack on Frigate Bay, Turtle Beach Bar & Grill www.turtlebeach1.com, Stonewalls in Basseterre, Ballahoos, and Sprat Net.

A website you might find helpful is www.islandimage.com Click on Travel Forum.

Be sure to leave the Marriott to explore the island.

Definitely visit Brimstone Hill Fortress www.brimstonehillfortress.org, Rawlins Plantion, catamaran to Nevis with Blue Water Safaris www.bluewatersafaris.com, rainforest tour with Greg's Safaris www.gregsafaris.com, and kayaking with Turtle Tours contact [email protected]

Be sure to post a Trip Report when you return.

Stonewalls is a great place to eat. I climbed Mt. Liamigua and if you like hiking it is great. I also went horseback riding into the rainforest and it was unforgettable -- my 10-year-old son loved it!
Skip the railroad. It's an overpriced tourist trap. Spend the money going to an unspoiled black sand beach instead.
