Antigua or St.Lucia ?

My husband and are trying to find a AI that has a great beaches (white and big), great snorkling. Any advise is good as we have been to neither.
Which is better - Antigua or St. Lucia? Is Antigua similar to Punta Cana?

Best beaches...Antigua
Best Snorkeling...Antigua
Best restaurants, shopping and best all-around...Antigua
It has so much to offer and having lost luggage on both islands, I can tell you that Antigua was no exception there either. More nightlife and just more enjoyable. Sorry, I can't comment on Punta Cana.

I have to agree with knowing. We have been to both St. Lucia & Antigua and we enjoyed Antigua a lot more. We actually stayed at the Jolly Beach Resort about 10 years ago and had a wonderful time. If you decide to go to Antigua DO NOT MISS Shirley Heights and Nelon's Dockyard. The scenery is beautiful. We found there is not the poverty on Antigua that there seems to be on other islands. eg DR and St. Lucia.

Yes Shirley Heights is great and the previous poster described Antigua very well. We stayed at Sandals which was wonderful BUT the constant strolling vendors on the beach were annoying to us after awhile. We liked Aruba, St. Martin and Tortola because we were not bothered by solicitors. As long as that isn't a problem to you then you'll have a nice vacation in Antigua.

Thanks for the input - we just read reviews on Jolly Beach Club and they are scary. Everyone seems to be complaining. The stress of choosing a "vacation spot" is really getting to me!
I will definately see Shirley Hgts and Nelsons, that sounds like a fun off the resort adventure.
I keep coming back to this site for more travel talk, everyone has been so helpful. I am sure you will hear from me soon.

This is a great sight for travelers.
