Antigua or Barbuda

Jump to last reply

We would love to plan a stay at an all-inclusive in either Antigua or Barbuda - we would prefer 7 days, but might consider 5 days. We live in Grand Rapids, MI, so the airline fares are pretty steep, so maybe someone has a suggestion on an airport we could drive to that would be more reasonable. Please let us know if you've had some wonderful memorable experiences on either island, and where you might suggest we look for accomodations. Thanks. Jeff & Sue Porter

First you, should know that Barbuda is a very sparsely populated and very quiet island. Consider going there only if you want to "get away from it all". There's not much to do on the island and you can see everything there is to see in a 1/2 day tour. By the way, if you do go to Barbuda you'll first have to fly into Antigua then take an island hopper or private charter flight to reach Barbuda. This will add to your transportation costs. For an All Inclusive Resort on Barbuda check out Coco Point Lodge (www.cocopoint.com) - however it is not inexpensive.

Second, there are Several All Inclusives on Antigua. It would help if you gave us an idea of your budget so we can steer you in the right direction. Be specific - terms like "affordable", "reasonable", "not too expensive" or "won't break the bank" are meaningless on a travel forum without an actual dollar point of reference.

Third, regarding airfare - it's going to be fairly high from Grand Rapids since that's not a major "International Gateway Airport". Whether or not driving to another airport will prove to be more economical is difficult to say since I'm not sure there are any non-stop flights from that part of the country to Antigua. Try looking at flights from Chicago's O'hare Airport or from Detroit but don't be surprised if you find it's still at a one-stop or two-stop flight from either of those airports.
