Antigua or Barbados? August 20

Hi fellow travelers,

We typically vacation in the Caribbean end of May/early June, but work kind of took precedence this year. Still would like a Caribbean vacation without going too far south due to longer flights, heat, etc. and wondered of these two islands we haven't yet visited, which you prefer and why?
- Mid 40s, no kids.

- We like renting a car and exploring the island beaches and shopping.
- Our trips usually revolve around food - so like on St. Maarten visiting Grand Case for dinner from the Orient beach area on the French side (we're not much Dutch end/casino people) but nice to "visit." Then go back to our sanctuary.
- We enjoy private beaches vs. crowded (think Bermuda Pompano Beach Club) but in late August, probably pretty quiet anyway

Thank you again.
Best,
Axel
