Antigua, Nevis, St. Lucia or Anguilla

Looking at these destinations for an end of May or June vacation. Having a great beach at the resort is a must like the ones at Grand Cayman or Turks & Caicos. We enjoy beautiful beaches, good snorkeling, a variety of things to see and do, golf is a plus and beautiful scenery. Like a variety of restaurants w/good food (doesn't have to be gourmet).

Re: Nevis - Is there enough to do? Have been to Bahamas, St. Thomas, St. John, Tortolla, Caymans, Barbados, Aruba, Turks & Caicos. Loved the Caymans and Aruba. Enjoyed Turks and Caicos - beaches were wonderful but not a lot else to do.

We shy away from islands that have a lot of poverty or unfriendly people. Safer, cleaner islands are best.

Out of the islands you mentioned, Nevis and Anguilla are the safest and cleanest with extremely friendly people. However, there is not a lot to do on Anguilla aside from water activities, beautiful beaches and great restaurants. There is a great beach bar called Johnnos, but otherwise not a lot of activity at night. The beaches are amazing, though. Nevis is beautiful, very lush with rainforests and quaint, historic plantation inns. The beaches do not compare to Aruba, St. John or Anguilla, but are nice. There is a lot to do in terms of history in Nevis, there's a great beach bar called Sunshines and for more action, you can take a day trip to St. Kitts. This may be a great choice. Or, you could stay on Anguilla and take a day trip to St. Martin for the casinos. Haven't been to Antigua, but hubby and I are going in May. The beaches are beautiful, the people are friendly (although Nevis and Anguilla get higher raves in this area) and there is lots of history and some shopping in the town of St. John. If you are looking for the best beaches, though, try Anguilla. Check out Cap Jaluca or the Cuisinart. For Nevis and St. Kitts, check out the Nisbet Plantation Inn and Ottleys Plantation Inn. Hope this helps.

Sounds like you should be looking into Bermuda!

Anguilla has gorgeous beaches and great food, but like Turks and Caicos, there is not a lot else to do.

St.Lucia is a stunning island, with incredible scenery, some exotic and lovely beaches in the Southwestern part of island, but will fall short if a Cayman and Turks & Caicos beach is what you are looking for. The people are extremely friendly in St.Lucia, but again if you shy away from people that live very differently then you are accustom to seeing, St.Lucia will probably intimidate you.

Like the others have said, Anguilla has the best beaches of the islands you are considering. They are every bit as nice as in the T&C's but you'll find the island itself is very scrubby and lacks the beautiful scenery you are seeking. The island does boast some of the finest restaurants in the Caribbean, but they can be very pricy. Depending on where you go snorkling is average to above average. There's no golf on Anguilla. The people are extremely friendly and the island is fairly safe. Most locals live modestly which is sometimes misinterpreted for poverty.

Nevis is very lush and incredibly beautiful but the dark sand beaches pale in comparison to Anguilla and Antigua. Snorkling leaves a lot to be desired, the best area is actually off of Shitten Bay in St. Kitts (there are several day sail tours that will take you there) but it still does not compare to the other islands on your list. There are many very good restaurants and golf is available at the 4 Seasons ($150 green fees). You can hike the rain forests, visit ruins of old sugar plantations, go to the botanical gardens and visit a few beach bars. You'll find everyone is very friendly but like Anguilla the modest housing can give outsiders the wrong impression.

Antigua offers the best combination of beaches (the island boasts 365 different ones), scenic beauty (but not as lush as Nevis or St. Lucia), watersports, golf and average to above average snorkling. There are some restaurants outside of the hotels and resorts but not many of the quality you'll find on Anguilla or Nevis. There are some poverty stricken areas but they are easily avoided.

St. Lucia is the lushest island with spectacular scenery. The beaches are nice but don't compare to Anguilla or Antigua (more like on Nevis). Snorkling is good and there are numerous activities such as hiking, volcano tours, watersports, diving, deep sea fishing. The island does have more poverty than the others on your list and the people are sometimes not as friendly and helpful as on Anguilla or Nevis.
