Antigua - Do Fodorites really go there ?
I purchased Fodors Caribbean Guidebook a few years back and was taken to a comparison of the Caribbean islands on page 16 titled "Island Finder".
Antigua was rated with five stars for Beaches and Fine Dining : also with very good accommodation options and relatively lower costs than elsewhere in the Caribbean.
So we took the decision to go there for 9 days in late August this year as part of a trip around the globe from Australia.
I have found a few places to stay and would greatly appreciate any comments from those who have visited.
I like what I see online at Sugar Ridge Resort and Nonsuch Bay Resort. We would go Bed and Breakfast and venture out most days. Any comments greatly appreciated on those and other properties ? The properties mentioned fall in the USD 150-225 per night range
There appear to be a few great upmarket restaurants on the Island, but does anyone have suggestions for more middle-of-the-road ethnic or local dining experiences ?
Any advice on the subject of Antigua would be really helpful. Thank you.

You might want to post your question on the Antigua Forum at TripAdvisor - it's a very active forum with lots of "experts" willing to make comments. You can also read hundreds of reviews of resorts and restaurants.

I can't help much as we had a day there with a cruise stop but I can recommend a great private guide. Just google Gordon of Antigua. He gives smaller tours with up to about 6-8 people. Our first stop with him was the local market and he purchased some fruit for us, whatever we wanted. We stopped at a number of places including Nelsons dock and a local bakery where again the treats were on him.
He is very personable and his prices are reasonable.
Enjoy Antigua.

Alas, it is very silent here on the Caribbean Forum nowadays.
Oh well, we have decided on two properties for 9 days, but this is not a stand alone holiday but part of a 6-7 week itinerary - an extended wedding anniversary celebration that arises because the best use of One World frequent flyer redemptions is an around the world ticket from Australia.
I think we will accept offers from the Nonsuch Bay Resort on the beach for 4 days and then on to Sugar Ridge up high on a hill for 5 nights in August.
Rates appear pretty good because it is off season.
Thank you for your advice. We will defect to Tripadvisor on this subject, but live in hope that someone here can tell us off their experiences at the resorts we have selected.
Thanks again.
