Antigua----Carlisle Bay
Has anyone stayed there? If so how was the food, snorkeling, children 9 and 10 ok to take and is the island easy to get around and fairly safe or like St. Thomas in terms of crime?

Can't speak to Carlisle Bay, though I do recall reading a review of it here within the last 12 months. You can do a search and find it. What I can tell you is that I find Antigua very easy to get around -- mostly good roads though the signage could improve. Also feels very safe, though I don't have my hand on statistics, nor would I let them dictate my travel. It's much flatter than St. Thomas though it does have its share of rolling hills. Boggy Peak is the highest point at something like 400-500 meters. There are tons of beaches around the island--some perfect for long walks and some just the right size for two for a private picnic. It's one of my favorite islands to visit.

Thanks Ejcrowe.
Lisa.. is it the island or Carlisle Bay you are referring too? I did look at tripadvisor-----alot to sift through. Looks like Carlisle may be to froo froo for us. Something tells me Antigua might not be our place---we tend to like St. Lucia a lot; however, I do recall I think Ejcrowe liking Stlucia also.

Yup, I loved St. Lucia, too. For sheer beauty it beats Antigua hands-down. And STL does have more of an old-world Caribbean feel overall. But we keep returning to the Long Bay Hotel on Antigua in between exploring other islands. It's the folks at the hotel who have become dear to us, as well as another friend we made in Antigua. Long Bay is very relaxed and lowkey --not posh, not elegant, and not even really up to date. But despite, or perhaps because of all that, we love it there. It feels like arriving home after a long journey. It's definitely old-style Caribbean. No pool, no air conditioning, no telephones or tvs in rooms. What it does offer is a lovely beach, good food, and the warmest and most genuine staff I've ever encountered. And the owner and manager live on site. Wonderful little place.
When we got married at Long Bay a couple of years ago, we had children ages 6 months to 13 years--they all loved it there. And on weekends and holidays, Long Bay beach is where all the local folks from the surrounding villages go, so even when other kids aren't at the hotel, there are local kids for playing at the beach.
