Hi,
We are going to go to St. Lucia for a week, and I would like to spend another week on a different island. Does Martinique make sense? We do not speak any French. Has anyone been to Martinique lately?
Another island to combine with St. Lucia---Martinique maybe?

There are day trips from St. Lucia to Martinque and St. Vincent and the Grenadines being that those are the two closest Islands to St. Lucia. For an extra week vacation, I would definatley chose St. Vincent and the Grenadines over Martinque. Beautiful beaches and clear crystal water. Exact opposite of St. Lucia.
Thank you KVR for replying. We have been to St. Vincent and the Grenadines twice--absolutely beautiful. We want to try an island we haven't seen. We have been to Dominica, or otherwise we would go there. It is just really hard to read all of the reviews in French!!! I'll try using Ultavista for help in translation. It is going to take lots of research on my part to get a feel for Martinique.
I'd go to Barbados. It's a quick, 20-minute flight, and because tourism is down in Barbados this year, there are some good deals to be had. While the euro is going down in relation to the U.S. dollar, it's still a pretty expensive destination. Go if you really like French and Creole food, however.
I'd agree with Doug about Barbados--it has everything. However Martinique is beautiful, historically interesting, has the French flair, easy to get around because, being a department of France, has very good, well-marked roads. People in tourism-related areas speak enough English for you to get by. We thought Martinique was much nicer than St.Lucia, and the beaches in the south and southeast are white sand and gorgeous, particularly Les Salines Beach near St. Anne.
Again, I appreciate your replies. I thought of Barbados, but we have been there three times which is why I was looking for a new island. Any other suggestions from anyone?
Have you been to Grenada? It's also pretty close to St. Lucia.
KVR, we have been to Grenada, St. Vincent, and the Grenadines twice. I'm continuing to research Martinique at this time. Thanks for your suggestions.
Thank you...Thank you! We have been so stumped on what island to visit for our 2 week honeymoon and I never even considered splitting it between two islands. We also want to do St. Lucia and I am looking forward to hearing more suggestions for a second island (our request is Aruba style beaches...clear calm water and white sand) One question I have...how much do these island hopper flights generally cost and how do you book these flights? Thanks livinglong for the great idea!!
This is an old post. I recommend you start a new one with your questions...

@Livinglong - Did you end up going to Martinique? Looking to go for a honeymoon. Any thoughts?
This thread is three years old and wasn't really about Martinique. I'd start a new one.
