Loved the beach photo of Shoal Bay East. It took me back to Shoal Bay Villas---one of our best vacations. I have to agree, when the beach was totally empty it really felt like paradise.
Last time we passed through SXM (on the way to Anguilla as well), there was no one at Customs either. Felt like a criminal walking out of the terminal, and kept looking back, but no one came after us.
I'm in the Can't Stand Cilantro Club too. I cook with it (as one must, when cooking Mexican or Thai), but it makes me gag.
Enjoy your trip!
Makes me want to get back to Anguilla soon!! Do you mind sharing the names of the other two villas? Bellamare looks wonderful but too steep for our budget as well!!
La Vanda is the name of a studio cottage that is like a mother-in-law apartment on the Bellamare property, and Mimosa is a two-bedroom, two story villa that can be rented entirely or as two separate one-bedroom floors that sits on a hill behind the Bellamare property. You can find them all on VRBO.
Here's parts 3 & 4...

Hi! i just read your report, its very useful!
We are travelling to Anguilla next wee for 3 days and satying at Frangipiani Resort on Meads Bay. I would really appreciate any suggestions on places you have been to near our resort, for lunch, day-time cocktails and dinners? For lunch we are looking for cheap and friendly places that we could maybe walk to?
Thank you
Hi Adahan,
I've stayed at the Frangipani twice in the last 3 years and will be back again later this year. I truly love it. Almost right out your door is the Straw Hat, on the grounds of the Frangi. That's probably the easiest, although not the cheapest. A short walk down the beach is Blanchard's and Jacala. I've only been to those spots for dinner, but, I've heard Jacala is great for lunch as well. A few weeks ago, Blanchard's just opened their Beach Shack which I'm really excited to try for lunches. The prices are reasonable and the menu posted on the web site is quite extensive. One of my other favorite places for dinner, which is just a short ride away is Oliver's. Miss B, the hostess, is an absolute riot and we are treated like family whenever we go. As for cocktails and a light meal, my favorite spot is the Sand Bar. It was still relatively new when we were there last December, but, everyone seems to love it. They make a mean cocktail and some of the best french fries I've ever had in my life. Have a wonderful time!
