Anguilla booked and now where else?

Hello,

We are traveling to the Caribbean from mid to end of January 2018.

After a lot of research looking for perfect white sand beaches, thanks to Fodor contributors we have booked our travel to Anguilla for a 6 days ( plus a day on either side for travel makes it 8 days).

We have another 9 days in hand to try a different part of the Caribbean and would appreciate some help choosing.

We accept it is an expensive time of year and there may be Christmas winds. We would like somewhere where we may be able to find shelter away from winds with sandy ocean floors (not too much sea grass or rocks).

This is the last week of our holiday so will splurge on a bit of luxury. We would like a destination where there are things to do as well as being on the beach. We are not water sports enthusiasts or hikers but enjoy day trips to islands or interesting places and experiencing some local culture.

Should we spend the time on St Maartens or go for a different experience in Barbados, Antigua, St Lucia, or somewhere else you might recommend?

We know that we will need to connect back to Miami before flying on to another island if we don't stay in St Maartens.

We will choose a hotel once we have chosen our destination. Thank you for helping.

Hi Suze and RoamsAround,

Someone put a link on my other thread to some kind of survey and since then I can't open it without getting warnings that it is a virus. I reported it to Fodors days ago but it is still there.

So I can't see the advice on the other places on my previous thread.

I felt sure Barbados was the recommendation but was not sure so thought I better check we're doing the right thing.

Somebody has noticed and my previous thread has been cleared of the 'invader' and I can see all the very helpful posts. Will follow that so please ignore this thread. So sorry if I wasted anyone's time.

Without you mentioning it I would not have known there were posts there. Thank you!

Not a problem and I'm no help with your questions unfortunately! Just noticed the two posts.

From Anguilla you can charter a short flight to St Bart's which is a great island to explore-- great food and some luxurious accommodations. After Anguilla you won't like St Martin. I suggest staying on Anguilla the entire time. It's a great island!

Yes I would also recommend St Barts. The place is quite unique as it is some kind of French elegant seaside town (by the way, several restaurants and shops have branches in St Tropez, Biarritz, Deauville...).Local feeling but cosmopolitan, champagne galore, beatiful beaches.
You just need a thick wallet, especially in January (but more affordable than around xmas and new year when billionaires meet to party)
