Hi SJ!
We stayed at Club Oasis Akumal at March Break in '95. We had a lot of fun. The staff is really friendly, the food is fine and the snorkelling is great. The beach was a little windy, but I think a storm might have been blowing up. The resort is really laid back and calm, and in a great area near Tulum. The visitors were mainly European (we're Canadian). If you want a laid back resort that also has the option of water activities, Akumal would be great.
How is the beach as far as swimming, snorkeling, and watersports. ARe watersports included? How is food- lots of variety and ala carte option some nights?
You mentioned laid back , does it have night entertainment, disco or anything - we are a group of people in our mid 20's and looking for relaxing accomodations with stuff to do on resort at night (all inclusive)-do you think we'd enjoy this place???

We spent two wonderful weeks at Club Oasis Akumal in April. There is great snorkeling right from the beach (a protected reef). One day, we even saw a ray swim right up to shore. If you're lucky, you'll also see turtles ("Akumal" means the "place of the turtle"). Other water sports include windsurfing, water bikes, pool volleyball... Club Oasis Akumal has its own PADI dive centre. The food is terrific. The main buffet restaurant changes its menu daily, and there is also a specialty restaurant (make reservations the morning of the day you want to go.) Here, you have to try the banana flambé. It's the best! There is nightly entertainment (live band, dance shows...). The resort is a short 10-minute cab ride from the Mayan ruins of Tulum. You can also borrow a bicycle and go to the village of Akumal (about 20 minutes). If you would like more information, please write me directly.
Subject:
Are you looking for a Quiet Beach?

Body:

Akumal, Quintana Roo, Mexico is 60 miles south of Cancun.
Rent a car, take a taxi, or take a bus from Cancun. Akumal
is located in an area that was the first dive resort in the
what is now call Cancun Tulum Corridor. The area has several
dive shops and centers. Akumal dive center on the beach at Akumal, Akumal Dive
Shop (the original shop), down the coast
just a short is Tankah dive shop, and there are some in Tulum.

If Snorkeling and hanging at the beach are your thing then North Akumal (Half
Moon Bay) or Akumal or Tulum or Tankah maybe what your looking for.

If Touring and Hiking the Mayan Ruins are of interest they are available just a few
miles away. Tulum, Muyil, Coba, and Punta Laguna (Place of the Spider Monkeys)
are just for starters.

Mayan food is very good and interesting. There are excellent Restaurants in the area.
La Buena Vida is a favorite for the evening meal for us. Benito the manager will
accomodate just about any style of meal you can imagine. He's an interesting man to
visit with. Turtle Bay Bakery and Cafe is a great place for breakfast. There Muffins
melt in your mouth.

Lynn and I have gone there for R&R for the last four years.
We have a web page devoted to Akumal and area.

http://members.theglobe.com/kc5tet/akumal_1.htm

This page has trip reports put to many photo and interesting links that will help you
know the area and enjoy it. Maybe even help you to decide to go.
See ya.
bill and lynn
[email protected]
May All Your Travels Take You Some Place
