Airfare Pricing to Caribbean

My husband and I are planning to go to the Caribbean in mid-May. I am shocked by the prices for the flights to T&C as well as Aruba (we are deciding between the two). We usually buy our tickets through expedia but they are showing rates of about $800 to Aruba and $600 to T&C. Does anyone have any suggestions on how we can get a better price? We can get a great deal on the hotel prices b/c it is the low season. Thanks.

Kathy, You may have already tried this, but we usually try to get an airfare and hotel package together. We have had some great luck doing this for Aruba and for Nassau.

We managed to get round trip air, hotel, transportation from/to airport and even breakfast for not much more than what the stand-alone airfare was quoted at.

Shop around and try that route.

Several airlines are having Caribbean sales going on now. I think USAIR is one. If that doesn't work there is the Certificate in the Kiplingers Tax Cut software ($10 for software). It is for any destination that USAIR flies to in the Caribbean. The price depends on your city of origin, but I got a RT airfare to St. Thomas from Baltimore for a total of $408. E-mail if you need more info.

Thanks for the responses so far. Also, just wanted to mention in case it mattered that we are flying out of the New York / New Jersey area (most likely Newark).

Larry,
I saw your earlier post, does the discount rate you mentioned in Kiplinger's tax software include Atlanta or Birmingham, AL. Also, were you able to get two tickets or just one?
Thanks for your help.

Chad--
I believe the offer applied to any place USAIR flew from. The certificate divided the country into zones and depending on which zone you are departing ,the price is listed. It is good for up to 4 tickets!!
