Air Travel with a toddler carseat
We're off to Aruba for the third time - 1st time with our 4 year old daughter. I've never flown with her before and looking for some suggestions for the flight and once we get to Aruba. From what I've read so far, I think I can just buckle her in her seat on the airplane like you would for a younger child. Would you agree? She sits in a booster car seat when we're in the car in the US. Once we get to Aruba, we'll be taking the bus around the island and to and from the hotel and won't be renting a car. I don't see any reason to bring a car seat. Please help with any advice or suggestions! Thanks!

I wouldn't bring one. My kids are teens, but they were both out of car seats by 4 years old. So, things have changed dramatically in 10 years.
I think she will do fine sitting on the airplane with the lap belt. Bring snacks and definitely bring a small backpack with some new toys inside. It will make for a more pleasant trip. A portable DVD is also a great tool if you are flying a long distance. We bought one to fly to Hawaii when our kids were around 10-12 years old.
Also, the ears can hurt kids on the landings. So, having a drink or a piece of gum will help.
Have a great time!

Hello,
I'm going with my 3.5 yo daughter to Aruba for the first time in April. Not sure if I need to bring a car seat or not, not sure if we'll be taking buses or taxis. Is bus system that good that you plan to use it all the time?
Thanks

If any of you do decide to bring a carseat on the plane (and I don't think you need to) make sure it is FAA approved. It will have a sticker. They check for this.
If any of you are planning on checking a carseat, gate check it at the door of the plane. We checked ours with regular luggage on the way to Grand Cayman. It didn't make it, the next plane wasn't until the next day, and there were no rental car seats available. We drove very carefully to our hotel.

I highly recommend a CARES harness. I bougth one for our 3 yo for when we travel by air but don't bring a carseat. It is much more secure than just the lapbelt. It fits in your purse and is very easy to use.
