Air Fares BGI-BQA-SVD - shop around!

Jump to last reply

I just finished price-shopping on air fares from Barbados to Bequia. Mustique/SVG/TIA (Grenadines Alliance) wanted $330US for their sched charter flights, including a fuel surcharge. They have also added tons of nasty rules about hefty extra charges for date and time changes...including delays caused by the incoming connecting international flights!

By contrast, LIAT wanted total US$175.55 for Barbados to St. Vincent.

And Caribbean Star wanted total US$148.60 for Barbados to St. Vincent

Quite the difference! For the $150+ savings, I'll forego the convenience of flying direct to Bequia and put up with the hassle of the idiotic CS check in procedure.

The LIAT and CS flights are convenient for ferries to Bequia as well as arriving and departing international flights in Barbados.

The extra costs involved in going to St. Vincent instead of direct to Bequia are the taxi fare from the St. Vincent airport to the Kingstown dock (20-30EC each way, and the ferry to Bequia (15-20EC return). A slight offset is that the taxi fare from Port Elizabeth to most hotels/guesthouses is less than from the Bequia airport.

Finally, given the equally idiotic screwing around. delays and mystery stops I have experienced in Mustique et al lately, I could be that the door to door travel time won't be much different. Air Mustique is 45 mins to an hour in the air; the other two are about half an hour.
