Affordable accommodations on St Thomas near ferry docks

My wife and I are headed to the BVI's at the end of this month. Unfortunately our flight doesn't land in St. Thomas until 5PM on a Saturday, about the same time the last ferry leaves for Tortola. With this dilemma we will need to spend the night in St. Thomas until we are able to catch the morning ferry. Any ideas where to stay that is decent and inexpensive while being close to the ferry dock? Or if someone has an idea how to get to Tortola that same night without spending an arm and a leg.

My wife and I are in the same situation. Looking at the Hotel 1829. Also have info on a bed and breakfast - The Crystal Palace - who will pick up guests at Airport. I was told it is short drive (taxi) to the ferry dock. I'll continue to watch for other reponses to your question. This is our first trip to STT so hopefully someone will give us both some good advice.

Hi Scott,

I think you will have a much better chance of finding a relatively inexpensive night's lodging closer to downtown than out on the east end.

I would also suggest you check out the Crystal Palace. Besides the cost, the building is marvelous, your host is a fourth generation St. Thomian who can give you all kinds of info on the islands, and it's right in downtown with an incredible view of the harbor.

Here's a website: http://crystalpalaceusvi.com/

You can also look into either of the Best Westerns over by the airport or the Holiday Inn Windward Passage....they are also reasonably priced.

Schultz

Try priceline.com and bid for a room for the night. To see how, go to the bidding advice site, biddingfortravel.com. Based on other folks' experience, you should be able to get the Renaissance or one of the Marriot properties for about $80 per night. Good luck!
