ADVICE ON ANGUILLA

HAS ANYONE STAYED AT THE COCCOLOBA CLUB VALTUR IN ANGUILLA? WE ARE THINKING OF TAKING A TRIP TO ANGUILLA NEXT JULY, EVERY YEAR WE VISIT A DIFFERENT ISLAND WITH OUR CHILDREN THEY ARE 9 AND 13. WE LIKE ALL INCLUSIVE HOTELS BECAUSE OF THE KIDS. ANY INFO ON THIS PROPERTY WOULD BE GREAT THANKS.

I am sure Penny will give you more details but it is my understanding that Cocoloba caters to mainly Italian guests and one visitor there told me that it was good that they could speak a little Italian since most of the staff and guests spoke fluent Italian and little English. You might also try www.caribbean-on-line.com, the Anguilla board, since many post there are also familiar with the island.

I can help you a little! There is an excellent trip report at
www.debbiescaribbeanresortreviews.com/
Go to Anguilla resort reviews and you will find a long report. The hotel is on the West end-and has rooms and cottages on the beach. This is the only all inclusive hotel on the island.
Other places that might interest you would be Carimar and Frangipani both on Meads Bay. These have kitchen facilities, nice to have wqoth children. The island is easy to get around and has many reasonable places to eat-very pricey ones too! The fun of Anguilla is going out to all the beaches and restaurants.
Marsha, what are some of the reasonable places to eat? What's the "reasonable" price range? We're looking into Anguilla but want to know what we're in for. Thanks.

Terri,
I'm not Marsha, but maybe I can help. First of all, visit this website for LOADS of info. www.menus.ai/
Some of the info has not been updated recently, but will still give you some good ideas for "comparison shopping" for restaurants. Anguilla has a number of high-end restaurants (none of which I can afford), but some inexpensive places I enjoyed were:
Johnno's - in Sandy Ground
Uncle Ernie's - Shoal Bay (east)
Ship's Galley - in Sandy Ground (this place goes almost unnoticed. A real shame. The food is very tasty, reasonably priced, and Michael the owner is absolutely charming! Stop if you can!
Ripple's - in Sandy Ground (best coconut shrimp I've EVER had!
Palm Grove - at Junk's Hole
Dune Preserve - good snapper

Other places that I haven't had an opportunity to try yet, but consistently get raves for food and value are: E's Oven, Tasty's Cafe, the Pumphouse, and Smitty's.

I would say the reasonable price range is, lunch...$6 to $15 main dishes and dinner...$16-$35 main dishes. drinks will add considerably to the bill. We were able to ease the bruise to the wallet by having accomodations with a kitchette. We always made breakfast, and sometimes lunch or dinner. Was nice to have the option of not needing to ALWAYS go out to eat.
You can do Anguilla without breaking the bank, and still have the best vacation ever!
