Activity Musts for St. Martin Day Trip

Hello All! Honeymooning in Anguilla (May), but would like to take a day trip to St. Martin. Anyone have suggestions for things we MUST do or see? I would prefer not to rent a car and am assuming we can get around by cabs from what I've read on that topic. Since the ferry leaves by 6pm....probably no dinner, but a good lunch recommendation would be appreciated! Thank you in advance!

I'm presuming the ferry comes in to the harbourfront in Marigot, the French capital. If so, you could spend a good part of your day wandering on foot through the shops, walk up to Fort Louis, stop into any number of cafes, bars for a cool refresher. The French capital consists of the harbourfront area and the area around the Marina, about 10 min apart. For lunch; I'd sugess a new restaurant called Le Plongeoir. It's on the harbourfront, just down from the West Indies Mall. It's small, new and we had two memorable dinners there just 2 weeks ago. One of my favourite shops is Hip Up for bathing suits, beach dresses, pants. Not cheap but great stuff; I buy 1 or 2 each year. Also L'Occitane for soaps. Lots of chic clothing stores in Marigot. Then if you want, take a cab to Philipsburg; I rarely go there anymore, just too touristy and crowded with jewellery stores and cruise ship passengers. Oh, in Marigot there's also a morning market pretty well each morning now. Other places to see: Pic Paradise, Grand Case, Orient Beach, Dawn Beach, Baie Rouge, and the list goes on. Feel free to email if you have more questions.

Thank you so much Linda! I'm not exactly sure where the ferry comes in. Anybody else have any favorite things to do for a day? Other restaurant suggestions?

Hi Marie,

We just recently honeymooned in St. Martin and Anguilla. Once you get to Anguilla, I don't think you'll want to leave. Yes, it's that nice!

The ferry will disembark in Marigot. We enjoyed a few lunches there at the "food court" at the harbor. Its a few dozen steps west of the ferry terminal. Very, very informal, very inexpensive. Next to this food court is an outdoor market...great for souveniers, sarongs, t shirts.

We didn't have time to go, but I heard that the America's cup races out of Bobby's Marina (P'burg) are a blast. You get a chance to be part of a team racing actual AC yachts! You can take as active or passive a job as you like. Many have recommended this, we just ran out of time.

Grand Case is a nice area for lunch. We thoroughly enjoyed bbq and homemade coconut ice cream at Talk of the Town. Fish Pot was also nice...not sure if they are open for dinner.

Go to Orient Beach for people watching and snacks on the sand. It's a little busy for our taste, but our day there was fun.

I wouldn't make a special trip down to P'burg just to walk around. If cruise ships are in port, it can be very, very crowded. I'm not into the duty free shopping scene. If you are, you may enjoy it more than I did! I was happy, though, to get a bottle of guavaberry liquor to bring home. Mmmmm.

I hope this gives you some ideas! Congratulations on your upcoming wedding and best wishes for a wonderful honeymoon.

Thanks Alaina! That was very helpful! Where did you stay on Aguilla? We are staying at CJ. I've also heard we won't want to bother leaving the island! Do you have any input or specifics about Anguilla or just what you enjoyed the most?

Hi again,

CJ? Wow! We've heard only wonderful things about it! Enjoy!!

We rented a private home on Little Harbour, which exceeded all of our high expectations. We really enjoyed going the self catering route.

Anguilla is not a lush, green island, but is blessed with beautiful beaches. Most of our time there was spent driving to a different one each day.

After a day at the beach, we'd mix cocktails to watch the sunset on the patio at "home", then we'd explore the island for dinner.

Some of our favorites/recommends:

Beachcombing, hiking at Junks Hole, followed by lunch at the Palm Grove

Snorkling at Little Bay...just go down to Roy's at Crocus Bay, find Calvin and he will take you over ($ 10) and pick you up.

Lunch at Uncle Ernie's, lounging on Shoal East with Roger (the Bombastic Pressure King).

Visit Bankie, Elvis and Michael at the Dune Preserve (on Rendezvous Bay, just past Cuisinart)

drinks, dancing and FUN at the Pumphouse and Johnnos

lots of little galleries to explore-especially liked Cheddie's wood work (I think that's his name)

stop at any roadside bbq-just follow your nose!

$$$$ dinners at Straw Hat, Hibernia

$ at English Rose, E's, Tasty's

great breakfast at the Old House

go to news.ai for lots of information. Also pick up "What we do in Anguilla" upon arrival for more info.

Ooooops, noticed a typo in my previous post. On SXM, we had dinner at Fish Pot, not sure if they are open for lunch.

Have a wonderful trip!!
