We are overnighting in Grenada on our way to Carriacou. Will arrive latish evening and depart early morning. We're looking for clean simple accommodation close to the airport. Does anyone have any recommendations, please.

I will second the Rex Grenadian it is two min from the airport, about 1/2 a mile and is architecturally the grandest hotel on the island.

The Rex Grenadian doesn't accept stays of less than three nights. We're also looking for something simpler (cheaper) - just somewhere to sleep for the night, rather than a resort

Sue,

We stayed for one night at the Mariposa before we started our island hopping, then one night after. I don't know of anything real close to the airport, but there are several on Mourne Rouge and Grand Anse beach that are not large resorts requiring stays. Try the Mariposa, the Coyoba, the Flamboyant or Blue Horizons.

Our stay at the Mariposa was $140 BUT it was a two room suite w/accomodations for the four of us. Very nice, we would have liked to stay longer.

I just spoke with the hotel's front desk who advised they do allow one night stays. You might want to try them direct 473-444-3333. Otherwise you could try Cedars Inn about a mile from the airport, not quite sure how it is rated though.
