ST. THOMAS IS VERY BEAUTIFUL! YOU WILL ENJOY IT NO MATTER WHERE YOU EAT. THE AGAVE TERRACE IS BEAUTIFUL AS IS HOTEL 1812. MIND YOU THEY ARE UPSCALE DINING. AGAVE TERRACE LOOKS UPON SUGARBAY AND ST. JOHN IN THE DISTANCE. HOTEL 1812 IS RIGHT IN TOWN UP A HILL AND LOOKS OUT TO WHERE THE CRUISE SHIPSDOCK. THEY ARE BOTH VERY BEAUTIFUL AND A LITTLE EXPENSIVE!
so many to choose from!! First pick up the Restaurant Guide in the airport! Great little maps with directions, meus and info about the included restaurants!
Each part of theisland has its own "best." East End features Blue Moon Cafe (definately one of my all-time fav's) at Secret Harbour. If not for dinner, go for lunch and swim at the beach there - great beach with good snorkling! But I would not miss dinner there! Another fav is Cafe Wahoo in Red Hook. High end with great views of St. John and Pillsbury Sound, also on East End, the Cafe at the Ritz. Haven't eaten in the "fine dining" there in ages. Very expensive but wonderful! Low key and inexpensive at Compass Point is Dottie's - home cookin' and a tradition (her desserts were featured twice in Gourmet). She and her daughter are still cooking and she just celebrated her 80th! Right across from there is Raffles - another good spot with music some nites! I love Alexander's in FrenchTown (but it is indoors). Upstairs, round the corner is Epernay, lite wine bar but good food! Also Craig and Sally's - good wine list! (I think a little overpriced!) Both popular with locals! If you like veal, Schnitzel Haus, East End very good but not the same atmosphere as Alexander's, no desserts (do the souffles and coffee after at 1829 - not the dinner there!), tiny place in a marina. Marisol is "new" on Gov't Hill and reportedly quite good and described as "exotic." Good ribs are to be had, they say, at Tillet Gardens, Polli, as well as good Mexican choices! Italian is Romano's (upscale) and Virgilio's in CA. Randy's on Raphune Hill. Bryan's on Hull Bay! Old Stone Farm House is NOT to be Missed!!! Grateful Deli in Red Hook (behind Duffy's) good for breakfast and sandwiches. Cuzzin's in CA (Back Street) for local cuisine!!
Agave has a great grapefruit salad dressing and wonderful views (ask for table at the rail) but food can be spotty! Smuggler's Cove has good brunch but if you are brunch people, head to St John and Caneel on Sunday!!! Mim's at Watergate. There are just too many to list!! If you are aol, go to aol message board for st. thomas and st. john. very active group there discusses restaurants all the time!!!
Thanks for the info....can't wait to go.
