We are flying into San Juan in November staying 1 night, before boarding a cruise ship the next day by 5:00pm. Wondering where to stay so that we can tour a little of San Juan and have a couple good meals. Any suggestions? So far I was looking at El Convento Hotel or Normandie hotel.

Both of these would be excellent choices, but I'd have to give the nod to El Convento, which is a fine hotel, though both are now quite wonderful places to stay. The Normandie has a fine restaurant, as does El Convento, but the latter would be more convenient to stroll around Old San Juan and try out different places. And the most interesting sights in San Juan are in the old part of the city.
Thanks! I would like to have a great dinner and lunch the next day. Suggestions? The Parrot club? Should I make reservations before I leave the states?
You should check. I don't remember off the top of my head if the Parrot Club even takes reservations ... several of the popular restaurants in Old San Juan don't. Aqua Viva is also good, and there are a lot on the same street, all together, many of which don't do reservations.
Doug has provided two great selections but I would like to recommend the smaller Plaza de Armas hotel and dinner at Cafe Puerto Rico. Oh just in case they have complimenatry DON Q rum drinks at their store on pier # 2
