A bit off-topic from pure travel, but here it is: I am getting married in the Caribbean next month and I would like some advice about hair products that combat humidity-induced frizz. Although I have decent hair that is basically straight with a fair amount of body, I am hair-challenged. Anything more complicated than a bob or a ponytail leaves me baffled.

I will be wearing my hair all one lenght, just long enough to tuck behind my ears and frame my chin. (Haven't decided about tiara or veil.) What kinds of products are there that can keep the frizzies at bay without making my hair feel like a helmet or look like an oil slick?

I don't know if this will help you, but KMS Flat Out Relaxing Balm helps my hair some. Use very little!!! You problably want to try it first, although the climate and humidity where you live may not match the islands, which is what happens to me! John Frieda Frizz Ease Secret Weapon Finishing Creme. I read about this stuff in Lucky Magazine (they swear by it) and just came back from a frizz-free week in Hawaii. Best part - you can buy it at the drug store.

I travel to the Caribbean A LOT.
What always works - no matter what - is to buy one of those flower-looking things that are attached to a small jaw clip and slick all the hair straight back (bangs and all) and clip it just above the nape of the neck. I spray the whole thing with a heavy duty hairspray and go have fun.
No need to worry about wind, frizzing, etc.
It's simple, elegant, and if you pick the right flower clip, it looks great in the tropics and with a tan, and would add to your "look" for your wedding. Plus, I don't know whether or not your wedding is going to be on the beach, but it can be VERY windy.
(You don't want to be picking your hair out of your eyes or mouth during your vows

I agree with the previous post...John Frieda's frizz-ease products or that sort of serum are great. I have extremely frizzy hair and this works for me. While your hair is still damp, rub a few droops together on your hand then run fingers thru hair. When your hair has dried, if you like you can add a bit more. (Not good for a wedding but in a pinch once when I left my hair stuff at home I used a bit of ordinary hair conditioner which worked surprising well!)In the Caribbean it may take a bit more product to hold hair down. A really good blow-out at a salon helps too. Flowers are always nice and you don't have to go overboard. Diana's suggestion of a flower clip is good, or you could use one or two local flowers. Remember hibiscus droop fast though.

Try a few things before you leave, but my best suggestion is a good moose (spelling?), lol. My hair is short now and I find the stuff great for my hair also fine and straight.

I too am getting married in the Caribbean in July and have been experimenting with products for my frizz prone thick wavy hair. A great product is Matrix extreme, in the orange tube found in any salon for $11.95. Its a creme you apply before blow drying straight. Really locks out the humidity and makes your hair sof and manageable. Investing in a ceramic flat iron to keep it smooth, straight and silky would help greatly also!

I agree with Diana. I live here, have long hair, and always keep it pulled back or up unless I'm in doors all day. The wind can be a really annoying factor when you are outside.

I had to chime in to agree with Diana and Statia. Although you didn't ask, I'd really recommend a simple updo - especially for a wedding on a beach. Why not get a french braid at the salon and tuck in a couple native flowers?

i have shoulder length straight hair and generally i give up on it during vacation. I normally curl my bangs but once i go outside, its to the pool or the beach and if that doesn't ruin my hair, the humidity flattens it soon thereafter. Of course, for a wedding, you will want a nice hairdo. I would suggest some sort of modified "updo" from the resort hair salon, or perhaps pin the sides back behind your ears with combs with flowers on them, or maybe a headband with flowers or a tiara to hold the hair behind your ears.

This thread is really funny because I also saw the Friends show and found Monicas hair problems hilarious...but a little close to home! And in the May issue of Allure they recommended the same trick I've used: lots of gel in wet hair, slick back into a ponytail with the ends tucked in, let air dry, and you've got straight hair!

i would love to have a salon do my hair, but there's not one anywhere near where we're staying. that's one of the reasons i'm asking for advice. nor will my hair be long enough to put back into a low ponytail, otherwise i think i'd definitely opt for that.

last night i saw something in Cosmo that was a cross between a headband and a tiara. i liked the look on the model, whose hair looked to be similar color texture, but it was $200. ouch!

i'm going shopping this weekend for all of the hair products y'all recommend. i'll try'em out and let you know. thanks again!
