Winnipeg in Mid-November
Hubby and I are going to Churchill mid-November. We plan to fly into Winnipeg a few days in advance (sort of an insurance against bad weather travel delays). Would love to hear thoughts on things to do/places to see in the area during that time of the year (not interested in anything sports related). Would not be averse to renting a car if necessary.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Hi eenusa,
I actually live in Winnipeg. Mid November the weather can be anywhere from frigid to not that bad.. But I guess if you are going to Churchill - you'll be prepared for cold weather.
Some things to see - The Forks area, Art gallery, Museum of Man and nature. There are lots of restaurants of all kinds - lots of ethnic. Interesting areas are the Corydon area (Italian and other) Osborne Village. If you are into casinos, there are two in the city. There may be some sort of a concert on at the MTS centre. You'd have to check closer to the date. Also we have theatre, ballet and symphony. However, all this can depend where you come from.
For more ideas, I would suggest you check out the Winnipeg Forum on www.tripadvisor.com - especially the posts by Auntie Mo as she gives great info.

Thank you both - I appreciate the info.
Raquel_z - I'll check out the TripAdvisor forum - did that for Churchill but neglected to do so for Winnipeg. I already have The Forks and the Museum of Man and Nature on the list. Appreciate the info re: interesting areas and will do some research on those as well.

If you are going to see the bears, are you sure that they will still be there in mid-Nov?
The best thing we did in Winnipeg is seeing the Royal Winnipeg Ballet. It was excellent. We got very cheap tickets by waiting until 7 PM.

Jed - I certainly hope so, since the Tundra Buggy people moved all their dates approximately one week later this year as compared to 2007. Their most popular (and expensive) adventure is a week later than we're going, so I'm hoping that bodes well for our chances. But then - you can never tell with mother nature.
I'll check out the ballet and see what performances might be scheduled for the time frame we'll be there. Thanks for the suggestion.
