Hi - will be traveling to Toronto this summer, myself, husband and 9-year-old. Wondering where a good place to stay? I'd like to do the following things and from what I can see, they are not near each other. I also do not plan on renting a car if I can avoid it, so access to the subway would be a priority.
Plan on: Science Center, CN Tower, Toronto Zoo, at minimum. Suggestions? Thanks!
Where to stay in Toronto?

The Strathcona hotel on 60 Yorkstreet is great. Not far from the hotel you can take the tourist trolley.Great guides and you can get on/off all day to the places of interest. You can also take a ferry to the islands.Great view of the skyline of Toronto.Paul
Neither the Ontario Science Centre nor the Toronto Zoo is anywhere near downtown Toronto, but both are served by mass transit. Here are directions to the Zoo, on the far east side of the city http://www.torontozoo.com/ExploreTheZoo/Directions.asp
The science centre is closer, but still northeast

The Toronto Transit Commission, generally called the TTC, runs an extensive operation so you are better off not driving in the city core http://www3.ttc.ca/index.jsp
There are plenty of attractions, from sports through culture to pubs and bistros, in the city centre. Here is the city's official guide and there are other activity lists on the Internet http://www3.ttc.ca/index.jsp
I use Priceline to stay in the mid-town area, centred on Yonge Street (which is the ciy's spine) and roughly from Bloor Street south to Dundas Square. Priceline's blind bidding can save substantial money. I check Downtown Toronto North at 2 1/2 stars, starting my bid at $55. Including Priceline's fee of about $12, I usually find decent hotels for a total of $70 to $80 with easy access to attractions and transport. There are plenty of other Internet booking services for a city that, outside of certain events such as the film festival in September, enjoys quite moderate hotel prices.
What is the "tourist trolley"?
OB... www.grayline.ca "hop on hop off tour of Toronto"
So, it's just a bus tour?
i've enjoyed both the delta chelsea and pantages ( where rooms are actually bachelors or one br suites w/ kitchen washer and dryer. a block or two from metro
cheers

OB ... it's $35 for three days and it stops at hotels and about 20 attractions... it also includes a water tour along the waterfront... if you want to get off and spend time at the museum or attraction, you just get on another bus later... the busses loop all day and hit their stops about every 20 minutes...
For those from out of town, it eliminates parking and driving and the drivers give a constant stream of history, trivia, and information... some people use it and never get off and others get off at every stop... it's well worth the money for tourists... try it sometime with company... it's fun
Thanks, Gary!
It does sound like fun!
