Where should we go mid-Sept to see Aurora Borealis Northern Lights

We will be finishing an Inland Passage cruise on Sept 14th and leaving from the nearest airport is in Terrace, BC. Before we return, we would like to explore adding on a detour north for a few days to hopefully see the Northern Lights. The destinations I see are Whitehorse and Yellowknife or else Alaska locations. Any option will be an investment of limited vacation time to get there and considerable vacation $$. Any advice on these or other options from that locale that might be more affordable and still be far enough north to give us a relatively high chance of viewing the lights? We know weather and whatever is fickle. We are not folks who need high luxury accommodations, but we don't want to have to rent a 4WD and drive ourselves. So if its one of these package destinations that is our best option, so be it.

Grateful for any knowledge posters can share to help us plan and finalize soon.
